Hello,
I wonder if anyone going to the B'ham City Archives could do me a great favour. I would like a look-up in the Hebrew School Admissions Register:
JA - Birmingham Hebrew Congregation
C - The Hebrew School (later King David School)
10 - Admission Registers: Infants
Ref No JA/1/C/10/1
Title Admission Register
Date 1867 - 1876
I'm looking for my great-grandmother Maria JONES. I think Maria may have been adopted so I would be interested in anyone called Maria. My Maria was born about 1860 in Birmingham. According to family her mother's name was Sarah or Selena LEVY, and her mother was Jewish. Maria gave her father's name as Levi JONES when she married, but he may have been her adoptive father. I think the relevant period would be 1867- 1872. The register covers admissions and withdrawals so I would be extremely grateful if both could be looked at.
Maria is my brick wall. I have been looking for her for several years and have only found 1881 census data and later, and her marriage certificate. Searches for birth records have been fruitless. I have not been able to find any Jewish records to search through Singer's Hill Synagogue.
I would be extremely appreciative of any help as I live in Canada and cannot do this search myself.
Many thanks.
