Claire thank you so much - this is incredibly helpful. I think Benford is a mistranscription of Bowers as everything else points to Bowers being the correct surname. Thanks again :)

I have a conundrum. Many years ago I found a record of marriage between John WALTERS and Hannah BOWERS in Hilderstone 1 Nov 1806. Never saw the image or verified the record.

Lately I have returned to this to double-check and have found 3 records that might all be the same event:
1. Ancestry transcription of marriage 1 Nov 1806 between JW and Hannah BENSON in STONE
2. FindMyPast transcription of all marriage 1 Nov 1806 between JW and Hannah BENSON in FULFORD
3. FindMyPast image of marriage 1 Nov 1806 between JW and Hannah BOWERS in chapel FULFORD St. Nicholas

The matter is implicated because Hilderstone did not have separate marriage registers until 1841 - before that they were part of Stone. Fulford St. Nicholas was also a chapelry in Stone.

I am keen to know if BENSON is a mistranscription of BOWERS. I would be very grateful if anyone who has access to the Staffs. parish registers might be able to look up 1. and 2. above in the registers.

Many thanks

Hello all,

I am also descended from Willam HALDEN and Mary SERGEANT through their son George who married Mary BOON CAPEWELL 26 Oct 1806. George and Mary had 3 daughters: Elizabeth, Mary and Alice. Elizabeth is mine.

If I understand correctly there are at least 2 HALDEN/HALDON/etc spelling families in Milwich in the 1700-1800s. I'm a little confused about who is who - I wonder if anyone has a publicly viewable tree?? I know I have corresponded with someone else in the family who had the details a little different to what I have but as I'm doing all of my research from afar using internet records I am likely to have some mistakes. Would love to get all of the details right!

best regards

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / BALDWIN and STEW in Kemerton

Hello,

I wonder if SKS could do me a favour. From the IGI I have a marriage between William BALDWIN and Mary STEW in Kemerton 20 May 1816. I have been able to trace Mary's family but do not know anything else about William - he died before the 1841 census (I don't know where - his widow was in Ripple Worcs. from 1841 on) and was born too early for FreeBMD. Would someone be able to look up the marriage in the parish register for me please? I would like to know if there are any other details such as William's residence. I live in Canada so cannot do this myself.

Many thanks.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / B'ham City Archives
« on: Monday 01 November 10 21:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I wonder if anyone going to the B'ham City Archives could do me a great favour. I would like a look-up in the  Hebrew School Admissions Register:
JA - Birmingham Hebrew Congregation
C - The Hebrew School (later King David School)
10 - Admission Registers: Infants
Ref No   JA/1/C/10/1
Title   Admission Register
Date   1867 - 1876

I'm looking for my great-grandmother Maria JONES. I think Maria may have been adopted so I would be interested in anyone called Maria. My Maria was born about 1860 in Birmingham. According to family her mother's name was Sarah or Selena LEVY, and her mother was Jewish. Maria gave her father's name as Levi JONES when she married, but he may have been her adoptive father. I think the relevant period would be 1867- 1872. The register covers admissions and withdrawals so I would be extremely grateful if both could be looked at.

Maria is my brick wall. I have been looking for her for several years and have only found 1881 census data and later, and her marriage certificate. Searches for birth records have been fruitless. I have not been able to find any Jewish records to search through Singer's Hill Synagogue.

I would be extremely appreciative of any help as I live in Canada and cannot do this search myself.

Many thanks.
