Dublin / Barry William Grogan Murphy
« on: Thursday 10 February 11 19:15 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information about Barry William Grogan Murphy.

He appears in a number of census returns and street directories for Dublin and also in baptism records in St Andrew's and St Michan's parishes in relation to his children. It appears that he probably worked in Four Courts, Dublin. I have also traced his marriage in Liverpool.

I have not been able to find out anything more about him or his wife whose name is recorded as Anne Rooan in the baptism record of one of his sons.

Has anyone come across these names in their 'travels'?

Any assistance welcome. Regards, Pauline

Hi Celtic Liberty, Not sure if the 1st reply went to you. Thanks for the info but I have all the details of the listed children (5 in all) I just cannot find Barry William.

Interestingly the names have been reversed for this son..all the others show Barry Murphy.
The names William and John are the family names that have prevailed. Barry and Grogan got lost along the way. Thanks, Pauline

Hi Mary, thanks for your reply. Yes I have all that are listed but have been unable to locate Barry William.
It is not exactly a common first name. The Grogan input is also of interest to me and I suspect belonged to a cousin or other family that  married a Murphy.
Thanks again, Regards, Pauline

Does anyone have a Barry William Grogan Murphy in their lineage?

He was my gg grndfatherand lived and worked in Dublin. He married an Anne Rooan and they had 5 children from 1830 onwards.

The only place where I have been able to find any Barry Murphys is in Cork so I am hoping that the name means something to someone researching Murphys (or Grogans and Rooans).

I do not have any other details about him I'm afraid. Any help will be welcome. Thanks, Pauline

Does anyone have any knowledge of an Arthur Armstrong whose dau.Rose Armstrong was born in Fintona c. 1851?
According to Rose's marriage certficate (in Liverpool) her father, Arthur, was a cattle dealer but no address was given.
Rose married a John Grogan Murphy who was born in Dublin in 1838.

Does Arthur appear in any trade directories?
Where did he live?

Hi Shane, sorry I havent got back before I have been looking at the Dircetories on Origins. The problem is the images are so small it is difficult to read them.
Slaters 1846 p126,21
Slaters 1870 Dublin Law Courts entry p.296?
Slaters 1881 Court pages p.253?
The entries appear to be quite extensive in that it is not just the bigger players who are listed. Have you got access tobetter images than Origins? Pauline

Hi Shane, I thought Four Courts was where the Courts of Chancery and Common Ples and the like were until the late 1800s? In which case the scrivener connection is feasible,. Pauline

Hi Shane, thanks. I'll start from there. With a Christian name of Barry I was hopingthat it may have been a little easier to find a connection. I am stil bemused about the gap in ages between the baptism  recorded date(where a witness was a John Grogan) and the age o0n the marriage cert. which is 9 yrs out. Regards, Pauline
