London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Lambeth Walk
« on: Friday 13 April 12 01:01 BST (UK)  »
Is your ancestor Henry Conrad Loeber b. 3rd May 1850 son of William Henry Loeber? If so he is connected to our Loeber family line which we discovered had a long time family tradition as bakers going right back to Adam Loeber b. abt 1771 Germany - a Sugar Baker who owned a premises on Charles Street which we think might now be called Sceptre Road and is in Hackney. William Henry was son of our 4 x grt Grandfather Conrad Loeber (also a baker) who was son of Adam Loeber. Hope this is of interest.

Hi, I've tried posting this before without success so forgive me if I am repeating myself! ???

I'm not sure if this is helpful or accurate but I have a Hannah Attannasis Loeber born 26 Jan 1805 Wapping, London (poss died Jun 1881 Westminster London.)
Anne Elizabeth Attannasis Loeber born Dec 1841 St James, Middlesex (poss died Oct 1864 St James Westminster, London)
Sarah Loeber born Dec 1844 St James, Middlesex

These are from very brief old notes as we are from the Conrad Loeber side of the family, but I have a written scribble next to Conrads brother Michael saying he married Hannah Attannasis so Loeber may have been her married name.
I have Adam Loeber (b. abt 1771 Germany) marrying Elizabeth Harriot 1st Jan 1800 St George in the East, Tower Hamlets. As far as we can tell they had:
Conrad son b. 1800 (our ancestor)
Mary Ann dau b. 1803
Michael son b. 1804 (who I have marrying Hannah Attannasis)
Richard son b. 1807
William son b. 1808
and poss a son Christoph
I have a death for Adam Loeber 13th Oct 1848 Drury Lane, St George, Bloomsbury, Camden, Middlesex; and a burial for Elizabeth 19th Sept 1838 Wycliffe Congregational Church, Tower Hamlets.
Adam Loeber was a Sugar Baker and also owned a tobacconists in Charles Street. There is an entry for him in the London Gazette 1822 for the debtors court listing Charles Street and Keate Street, Spitalfields.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Census : Stratton family
« on: Thursday 12 April 12 21:50 BST (UK)  »
Not sure if this is of help:

Marriage of Walter Charles Stratton to Sarah Johnson
28th June 1842
Swanscombe, Kent
Grooms Father: William Stratton
Brides Father: Nathaniel Johnson

I also have:
Walter Charles Stratton
Birth/Christening 16 March 1823
St Mary's, Chatham, Kent
F. William Stratton
M. Mary Ann Stratton

Our decendent is Walter and Sarah's son George F Stratton who married Martha, but we don't have a maiden name for her either and we don't know what the 'F' stands for - does anyone by any chance know their marriage details?

George F and Martha had a daughter also named Martha (b. abt 1880 West Ham, Essex) who married William Bartlett 1901 West Ham.

Derbyshire / Re: 1885 Inquest in Hayfield/Glossop

My ancestors (Hadfield) settled in Barrow from Glossop in the late 1800's. I remember reading in one of the history books that Glossop had a paper mill and when they opened the one in Barrow some of the skilled workers came up from the Gossop mill as a ready made skilled workforce. Did your ancestor work in the Barrow mill? It's a bit remote, but there might be a connection that explains why he was visiting Glossop.

London and Middlesex / Re: GIBBS SUPARDO marriage
« on: Monday 07 February 11 23:02 GMT (UK)  »
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! many, many thanks - our list of Supardos has finally fallen into place. We didn't have the info of John Gibbs as a witness at Eliza's wedding which connects Maria to the rest of the family. The red herring marriage to William Erwin had also thrown us. We also have a note of a marriage between Maria Supardo and John Gills, but we'll put that down to a typo on 'Gibbs'.

I also have an Amelia Supardo marriage in Stepney 1847, so I'm thinking she might be a sister to Theresa, Eliza, Maria and Edwin Paul.

Thanks again,
Si and Jane

« on: Monday 07 February 11 01:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Deb,

Many thanks for your help. We are having trouble finding Maria Supardo's birth and parents. We think the name might have Portugese origins. Have you managed to go back a generation to either John or Maria's parents? If we have our research correct, they had a son Thomas John Gibbs who is our 3rd Grt Grandad.

Hi Karen,

I think you might be able to help us please. My husband has started researching his family tree and his ancestors are John Gibbs and Maria Supardo. Would you be so kind as to post any other information from the marriage record that you have, it would be a great help to us. Many, many thanks!!

Staffordshire / Re: Ann Persehouse
« on: Sunday 09 January 11 19:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Sandra,
I hope this is of help - sorry if I'm repeating what others have posted.

Ann Wedge is my 3rd Grt Grandmother and was born/bap 3rd April 1814 in Bilston Staffs.

She married John Fieldhouse (my 3rd Grt Grandad), a mining engineer, 8th June 1835 and I think they had six children - John, Lash (?!), Mary Jane, Richard (my 2nd Grt Grandad), Sarah and William.

John died 9th February 1846 when he drowned in a mining accident.

Ann was remarried to Thomas Perry on 14th June 1847 in Bilston. I am not sure if they had children together. Thomas was also a miner and they moved up country to Dalton in Cumbria probably because there was plenty of  work in the iron ore mines in the area. They settled in nearby Barrow-in-Furness.

It took me ages to work it all out!

I am not sure if Thomas Perry was previously married or had any children from a previous marriage.

Anne appears on the following census:
1841 - with Samuel Wedge, her brother
1851 - wife, Highfield Street, Bilston, Staffs
1861 - housekeeper, Cheapside St, Bordesley, Aston, Warwickshire
1871 - housekeeper, Dalton Rd, Barrow-in-furness
1881 - Hawke St, Barrow-in-Furness
