On a related note

On 25th February 1923 Comdt Sean Cooney and Capt Myles led a patrol of 20 men in a search of the Newchapel area. They searched Cooney's, Lyons and Maxey's houses in Newchapel then proceeded to Clerihan. They arrested a man named Mullins, a brother of the suspected kidnapper of Lts Cruise and Kennedy, in Clerihan after Mass. This man was to be held hostage for the safety of the two officers.

The report on this patrol is in Military Archives File CW/OPS/10/02

Thanks for the information Mick . I have obtained a copy of the report , not much in it but helpful all the same .

I'm doing some research on casualties during the Civil War in Tipperary , in particular regarding two National Army soldiers killed near Tullaghmellan . If anyone has any information regarding this incident I would be grateful .

Your probably talking about my Grandfather Bernard  Keogh Who has passed away ,I also had an uncle called Barney who has also passed away . The slope you mention ran from Clonskeagh Bridge to the gate of the Dairy , About mid  along there also  used to be a cottage once occupied by a person named Hennesy who was also a relative of mine .

Dublin / Re: Burial Place nearest Balally
« on: Tuesday 15 November 11 21:03 GMT (UK)  »
Ballaly would be have been a bit borderline with regard to which parish it was in, but during the 1880s most likely be in Dundrum, but might also be worth checking Sandyford. For earlier dates the area was part of the RC parish of Booterstown (I think Dundrum was founded as a parish in the 1850s).

Unfortunately the RC records for Dundrum dont include death/burials. There is St. Nathi's graveyard near William Dargan (Luas) bridge and Joe Daly's - most of the burials there are Church of Ireland.  I dont see any other graveyards that close to Dundrum or Ballaly. The nearest would probably those used by Sandyford parish - i.e. Kilgobbin, Kiltiernan etc, or maybe Dean's Grange which opened in the 1860s..

You can check details of County Dublin cemeteries on the Dublin City Library website at : http://dublinheritage.ie/graveyards/browse.php

Shane

St. Nahi's church graveyard contains both R.C and C.O.I burial's , some of my relative's are buried there . It also has a "Potters Field' section where inmates from the local asylum among other"s are buried .

My Grandfather 's name was Bernard keogh , listed as a Sand Contractor on 1901 census . His first wife died and he married a second time . My mother;s name was Mary , she was a child of his second marriage . It appears he first lived in 106 Henshaws Cottages on the Clonskeagh Road just before Clonskeagh Bridge later moving to Beaver Row . The family lived in the house at the bottom of the quarry you can see on WWW.MAPVIEWER.OSI. There was no actual farm  but they did operate a dairy from that location , the cattle which provided the milk were kept at various location's close by and on some pasture in Rathfarnham .
