Thank you, that does offer me an explanation. There was a suggestion in my branch of the Frizelles that they originated from Alsace Lorraine. Is it known if  Palatine families come from there? Does anyone know a good  source for Palatine history?

I should like to thank everyone who has responded.
I now have much more information on the Frizelle family that I anticipated and have found several living relations and connections.
One thing however continues to puzzle me. In the New Ross area of Wexford where the branch I am interested lived, it would seem that some of this, or very similar name were Catholics and others Protestant.
I now know that the origins could be Norman - would these be Catholic? or possibly Palatinate when they would be Protestant.
Can anyone explain this seeming anomaly?
thanks
P.C-P

Thanks Neil I am sure we'll find some interesting connections in our trees.

I am also interested in the mention of the Scullabogue massacres in a previous post.
On our tree we have 2 brothers,Charles and Martin Frizelle  b 1772 & 3 who are described as being'hanged as rebels' in 1798 they also had a brother John b 1769 who married Eliz White and died in 1799 and next to his name on the tree is the word Scullabogue.

Any information gratefully received.

Hi
I am delighted to hear from you.
My Mother was Kathleen Frizelle b1908 and her parents Thomas Frizelle and Mary Cullen came from New Ross. I live in England but am only in contact with one current member of the Frizelle family in that area - she  is Jenny Frizelle daughter of James b.(*). He is brother of an OWEN FRIZELLE and son of Sam b.1905.

CATHERINE FITZHENRY  certainly is on our tree as the second wife of a Nicholas Frizelle ( ?1800- 1880) of New Ross who worked in Customs. His first wife was Monica Wall (d?1825)
This Nicholas Frizelle  was son of another Nicholas ( aren't there dozens of them!) and Ann Williams who was the brother of the 2 hanged rebels Charles and Martin.
I don't see a Carol Farmer or Johanna Roche but I don't have a full tree and what I have  is full of question marks.. An uncle of mine ( Uncle Nicholas) did some research which he passed to me before he died about 20 years ago but it is very incomplete and I only took it up again recently as I hope to be in New Ross myself this year ( I am a travel journalist).
I was delighted to learn via this site, that the family dates back to Nooman times
Do keep in contact and let me know where you live. ( I don't know if  we are supposed to give our email addresses - do you? ) but I am sure we must be distantly related.
best,
Patricia

Many thanks for these replies. I have come across many variations of the name Frizelle, Frizel, Frizzel etc but did not realise that it could be Norman. It was suggested at one time that they came from Alsace-Lorraine...
 :)
Please if any one else has ideas about this, do post them...but thanks

Wexford / Frizelle family

I am trying to trace the origins of the Frizelle family from New Ross and Eniscorthy. I have some names going back to the 1720s which include Sutton, Nicholas and a Charles and Martin but I am keen to know where they came from as it is clearly not an Irish name. Any help and suggestions gratefully received.
