It looks like Swales to me. Although i don't know if its a real town or something i've read about in a book. [I do read a lot of books and fiction and reality often get mixed up]

Thanks for you reply. I'm still looking for her and did see the ones you're talking about. i'm afraid money was an issue and sort of put it on the back burner. In the meantime i'm helping by indexing for
www.sheff-indexers.thewholeshebang.org
and am hoping to strike lucky that way. My other idea was actually to advertise in the paper for information but don't want to stir up a hornets nest in case the lady in question went on to have another family. Its something that my mother is not comfortable with. So i'll keep on crossing my fingers.

If you email bereavement.services@sheffield.gov.uk they may be able to tell you if your people are buried in city road cemetery. I found them very helpful.
