Lancashire Lookup Requests / Hightown Truant Industrial School, Southport
« on: Friday 28 April 17 10:07 BST (UK)  »
i am trying to locate the records for Hightown Industrial school.
mainly between 1883-1892 (at an estimated guess)

the individual i am trying to trace is William Archibald Edgar, alias William Archibald Greenash.
Born est.1878, either Scotland or  Liverpool.

There are records noting he was at this school and also time in Liverpool Prison (Wakfield Prison record 1900).
i can confirm him joining the 1st South Lancashire regiment around 1897 (date his Regt number issued) and trace him through time in BOER Wars in Africa and two marriages.
Any help or information would be gratefully received.

Armed Forces / Re: What information can I get from a photo?
« on: Sunday 26 March 17 08:48 BST (UK)  »

I would say the, Warwickshire Regiment (top photo - no definition of wings on cap badge) and the shoulder title is that of the size of Warwickshire Regiment, East Kent being the "Buffs" is much smaller.

The crossed Rifles indicate being a standard of marksman, although being early in the war not specified as a sniper (and not having a sight on rifle).

As for the one on the Horse, if it is the same person? it looks like he has the same cap badge?
My first thought was him having a pose on a horse or looking after one of the officers mount, but he is clearly wearing mounted bandalier, and has breeches and putties on with spurs? so clearly has a mounted roll. Any Name and details to check as he may have worked for some other unit but retained his cap badge etc.

Jim1 many thanks, i have been studying this book, i have looked in war diary's to try and confirm him mentioned as a casualty, but as you have confirmed the ambulance stations may not have kept such records so early on.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Garston Docks - Dockers Archives

Garstonite: Nikky was my uncle (dads brother).

If you can find out where rcords would be held that will be fantastic, i will also be looking at merchants supplying the ship trade mainly that of Cordial Manufacturers in Liverpool.

I think Garston holds an  amazing history through out the years and people like your self and Francis with the web site on facebook bring back to life some thing that could easily be forgoten.
