Family History Beginners Board / Re: Mystery. George Larkin b 1849 Hastings
« on: Monday 15 January 24 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information on George Larkin b1849 in Hastings.  He lived at 81 All Saints Street. Himself his wife Faney and their 7 children were last seen on the 1891 census. After that I have drawn a complete blank.  Can anybody help me.  Thank You Ann
Good Morning Ann ... are you related to either George or Fanny or both?
Fanny is my great great grandmother and I'm not sure if I'm one of George's great great grandsons, it's all rather confusing especially if I'm forced into changing my surname  ;D

Hi Mandy
I have Emma born Hastings 1884.
Her mother Esther born Piltdown, Sussex 1857 and her father Edgar born Sevenoaks Kent 1858.
Edgars father William was also born in Sevenoaks in 1817 and Edgars mother Anne was from Chiddingstone Kent.

I'm guessing Emma's paternal family were from the Kent area certainly after the early 1800's?
Emma's maternal grandparents may have been Irish but I don't have a birth or marriage certificate so I don't know her maiden/family name?

I think Emma's eldest brother named Edgar after his father either died at birth or before his 1st birthday so Frederick became her eldest brother born 2 years before her in 1882.  He died the year before we were born in 1964 so your mum would remember him!

As for John Thomas Richardson I have his parents as George Richardson born Hastings 1846 & Jane McDermott born Hastings 1847.
I think your George born 1815 and Hannah born 1821 is JT Richardsons grandparents as your George would have been a father at 66 LOL !!

I've sent you a private message with my contact details Mandy :-)

Kinda strange that two boys are born 6 months apart in the same parish with the same unusual christian name and amazingly the same surname  ???

Lancashire / Admiral Ashworth

Hi ... I'm trying to help trace my aunts paternal family from the Burnley area.

Her father was Admiral Ashworth b.1907 Burnley ... yes Admiral IS his christian name !!!
I think his father is Walter Ashworth b.1883 Burnley.
His mother is Maggie (something) b. 1881 or 1891 Whitehaven.
I believe they married about 1906-1907.

Now it gets tricky !!!
There seems to be TWO Admiral Ashworths born about 1857 ???
I think Walter is the one born to William & Elizabeth ... you can see this easily from the 1871 census.

If someone could find Walter's wife Maggie's maiden name that would be really great  :)
If someone could clarify which Admiral Ashworth born in 1857 that would be even greater  ;)
If someone could find both before I post this I'll write a cheque for one million quid  ;D

Thanks
Dave (East Sussex)

I think I might have to take this thread to the Lancashire forums ... unfortunately it's not as 'cut & dried' as I'd initially hoped it would be ???

Thankyou for your help everyone  ;)

WOW ... There are Admiral Ashworths as far as the eye can see in Lancashire in the 1800's ... very popular name.

I've found TWO Admiral Ashworths in the 1901 census - both born in 1857 in Burnley - one is married to Elizabeth and the other is to Mary Elizabeth ... all very similar and VERY strange ???  The difference is the children and the address ???

....... help ???

Thanks Mort
So can we assume that as a 25 year old he married Miss Sergeant in 1932 and then my Aunts mother in 1947 ??
I hope he was divorced somewhere inbetween !!!
I haven't a clue why he's using the prefix 'Admiral' ... to boost his ego maybe ???
