Thanks Neale,
yes, I have the entries with the variations of BRECK for births.
In terms of ancestors, IRVINE (IRVING) & TAIT are hopeful candidates.
The issues with the birth records for Agnes BRECK, are that she seems to be a generation out... I will keep looking.
I really appreciate your suggestions. Thank you.

Agnes BRECK (abt. 1801-1872) married James KELLY (abt. 1801-?) in Dumfries, Scotland on 8 Nov 1823.

Although Agnes consistently stated that Dumfries was her birthplace throughout her life (e.g. in census records), I have been unable to find a birth or baptism record for her.

Agnes, James and her young expanding family move from Dumfries to Greenside, Midlothian (Edinburgh) in 1841 and then widowed Agnes and family move to Liverpool by the 1851 census. Agnes died in Lancashire in 1872.

Census records state that James KELLY was born in Ireland. He was living in Dumfries when he married Agnes and started a family. James died between the 1841 and 1851 census records.

My research has been hindered by the commonality of the KELLY surname (even in Dumfries, Scotland) and the various spelling interpretations of BRECK (e.g. BROCK, BRACK, BRAKE, BECK).

My research queries are:
1. Who are Agnes BRECK's parents?
2. Where in Ireland was James KELLY born and who are his parents?
3. Did James come to Scotland on his own or with his family?
4. When and where did James die?

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me with my research? Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Aberdeenshire / Re: Robertson and Hay connections - Cruden early 1800s.
« on: Saturday 26 July 25 08:05 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all for posting information about your Cruden ancestors.
Looking through my records I also may have some ancestral connections as I have HAYs, ROBERTSONs and DAVIDSONs (and BYRES) from Crudent in my family tree.

William BYRES (1792-1846) married Jean HAY (1790-1827) in Cruden on 26 Nov 1815. William was a meal miller living at Nether Mill Cruden in the 1841 census. Jean was baptised in Cruden 15 Oct 1790 with her father recorded as John HAY (1750-). Witnesses to the baptism were William HAY and John LEGGAT. A possible baptism record for John HAY in Cruden on 3 Aug 1750, with William DAVIDSON as a witness.

Ann BYRES (1818-1894) [daughter of William and Jean] married James ROBERTSON (1812-1887) in Cruden on 16 Nov 1838. James' father was William ROBERTSON and mother Margaret MILNE.

Is this a match for anyone?

ps The Cruden Kirk Session records are an interesting read.

Thank you Forfarion, I will check shipping and passengers for other states around this time.

James Robertson's 1887 death documentation lists his occupation as "farmer".

Thank you Wivenhoe for resonding to my query.
1. James and Ann Robertson had three children in Scotland, the youngest being born in January 1842.
2. Their third child Ellen was born in Tasmania 1844/1845.
3. James Robertson died in Westbury, Tasmania in 1887. His wife also died in Tasmania.

Thanks Maddys52,

yes, I have checked through the Tasmanian Names Index and their arrivals. None of the James Robertsons match my dates (1842-1845).

yes, these are the death notices for James and his wife. (Thanks for looking them up.)

When and on which ship did James ROBERTSON (1812-1887)& his wife Ann (BYERS) (1818-1894) emigrate from Cruden, Scotland to Tasmania, Australia?

James Robertson was born in Cruden, Aberdeenshire and his wife Ann Byers was born in Peterhead. They had three children prior to emigrating to Australia. These are Agnes (1839), Mary (1940) ( mentioned in the 1841 census) and James, who was born in January of 1842.

As their fourth child, Ellen was born in Tasmania, Australia about 1844/1845, their arrival is most likely to be around 1842-1845.

I have been searching for years to find out the date and the name of the ship.

Does anyone have any suggestions that may guide me in my research?
