Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: LUCAS-WHITE Guernsey marriage *COMPLETE*

Hi HistoryFan,

Thanks for the extra info.  Not much success so far with the Somerset hint.  Perhaps he was only passing through on the way to Guernsey.

Providing an extra source that verified his father's name was great.  His death record gives his mother's name as Amelia, but the only possible matches to this combination have so far proved unsuccessful.

Thank you for your time and effort.  The search goes on.

Hi  HistoryFan,

You confirmed the information I already had, and most importantly gave me the information concerning John seniors' parent and birth place which up until now had eluded me.

Thankyou very much,   :D :D :D

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / LUCAS-WHITE Guernsey marriage *COMPLETE*

Hi

John LUCAS (b.1829) married Charlotte WHITE  (b. 1831) about 1850, possibly in
St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands.

Their first child; John was born there in 1851, and all three appear in the 1851 census.

I am hoping that the marriage details reveal more details about John.

Thank you

Hi Jeuel,

Thanks for your supportive comments. I will push on.  It was interesting to note that the un-sourced trees lead back to William the Conqueror so I get that for some it would be very nice to have such illustrious ancestors, but I just want my tree to be as accurate as possible.

You're right, Paskow Tonkin is a great name, unfortunately, many in the family thought the same. There are quite afew in the same area and time frame which certainly makes for interesting research.

cheers from downunder.  Wendy

Cornwall Completed Lookup Requests / OATES/OTES, Joan/Jone - COMPLETE
« on: Friday 29 July 11 05:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi

In my tree I have a Joan Oates marrying Paskow Tonkin 19 Aug 1699, St. Just in Penwith, Cornwall.

Using the usual sources (Cornwall OPC & Familysearch) I have found a Jone Otes baptised 14 Apr 1672  f=Thomas, m=Alce/Alls Cock. St. Just.

In my searching I also came across a lot of public trees which have Joan Oats bap. 14 Apr 1672 with parents MARTIN OATS and JANE RAWLYN/RAWLIN.   I have looked closely at these trees on Ancestry and cannot find a single one that quotes the source of their information and I cannot find any records that support their claims.

I did find a JOHN OTES Bap. 19 Oct 1672 f=Martin m=Jane, but definitely NO Joan/Jone.

With so many trees appearing with the same information I'm worried I've missed something so I'm hoping someone else out there can help me verify or dispel these findings so I can move on knowing I have properly checked my facts.      Wendy ???

Cornwall / Re: John COCK
« on: Friday 29 July 11 04:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello Bethan,

There appears to be at least SIX John Cock baptized between 1670 and 1685 in the Cornwall area.

My own search has lead me to an Alice Cock who married Thomas Oates/Oats/Otes (not too sure which), in about 1659 St. Just in Penwith, Cornwall.

I have found the Cornwall Online Parish Clerks website very helpful.

Hope it can help you.   Wendy :)

Hi Angie,

It certainly helps that someone else speculates and thinks the same way as I do given the information........just needed to hear someone else say it, before I pencil the information into my tree.

I have all the Tassie info, and if you are ever looking for any convict information the website: foundersandsurvivors has brought alot of the convict records from the govenment site together in one document for each convict.  That was where I orginally found mention of his mother, stepfather, and place of birth.  It also provides direct links to the digitised copies of the original documents.

Many thanks.

Wendy

Hi Captain2,

Thankyou for your reply, it has been most helpful.  I had suspected that the answer to my question about the proximity of Chapmanslade to Frome would be yes, but felt I needed a local to confirm, so your answer has given me hope that I am on the right track.

The additional information you have given me is great, as I have not been able to find much more than a mention of a Sarah (servant) in the 1841 cenus.

I'm grateful for the family information but not sure if it can be the right one as Isaac is supposed to have been born abt 1808, and Fix was listed as his stepfather.  If the information contained in the crime records is even close he would have been born while Sarah was actually married to Fix.

There is of coarse the Samuel Fix born in 1807 but this was listed as an alias on the crime records and not the given name.  Either I'm on the wrong track, or his real name was Samuel Fix and his alias was Isaac Davis, which he went on to use as his given name here in Australia.

I will keep chipping away to see what turns up.   Thanks for your help.

Regards  Wendy.
