Hi Geoff

Do you publish your tree online or just use software locally with RootsMagic?

I have Hugh and his marriage to Margaret Stewart, Census details and burial 1897, but no baptism record thank you.
I have Sarah b 1826 but only because 1841 census says age 15 (or were there two Sarah's?).

I did not have Thomas.

Regards

Steve

Hi Geoff

Well thanks for looking.  I do not doubt that it is right but it would be nice to know where it came from.

I got this from LFHS ...
The surviving Burns/Dalrymple RC Baptisms are

no birth date   09/09/1826   BURNS   GEORGE   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   DUMFRIES, ST ANDREW'S

05/02/1829   01/03/1829   BURNS   JANE   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   KIRKCONNEL, ST CONAL

17/07/1831   28/09/1831   BURNS   PATRICK   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   DUMFRIES, ST ANDREW'S

07/10/1833   20/10/1833   BURNS   CHARLES   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   DUMFRIES, ST ANDREW'S

Carherine Burns is my wife's 2nd great grandmother and I have no baptism or source for date of birth (30 May 1815) although I do have her death registration document.

Do you use Ancestry.com?  I have my tree there.

Steve

Hi Geoff

I am afraid I have no more than has already been mentioned - date of marriage and Charles a schoolmaster.  I have been in touch with Lanarkshire Family History Society to try and find death registration for Janet but no result so far.  Thomas Burns death was registered  by Agnes McPake  and she did not enter any details for his parents.  Agnes being Thomas's daughter Catherine's daughter (Agnes Connolly).

The guy at LFHS queried where I got marriage for Thomas Burns & Janet Dalrymple (4 Feb 1814 Closeburn) he says it is not in R.C. marriage index.  I can not find a source and do not remember, any ideas?

Steve

Hi I am also trying to find more information about Janet.   What I can say is that I have her husband Thomas Burns death registration document and it states he was a widower of Janet when he died 13 September 1874 at Clyde st Carluke.   In both 1861 and 1871 he appears as Widower so we are looking for Janet's death between 1851-1861 at Clyde st.

The Common Room / Re: Not always the indexer's fault - or earliest Gay Marriage ?
« on: Thursday 16 December 10 14:26 GMT (UK)  »
The trouble is that not only do we have transcription errors but we have to understand that our ancestors were not always literate and often mis spelled and changed their own names.  On top of that they appear to sign important documents with their current version of their name.  My great grandfather born Albert William known as Billie appears in some census records as William and his death is recorded as William Albert.   All just helps to confuse me!
