Northumberland Lookup Requests / Birney - Routledge Look Up
« on: Saturday 26 July 25 16:02 BST (UK)  »
I am keen to locate the details of the marriage of Mary Ann Routledge to Henry Austin Birney. They were married at the Catholic Chapel (St Winfirths?) at Cowpen 9th Jan 1926. I am trying to confirm her Father's name; the marriage certificate indicates her father is a John Hobson. But I believe it could be James. If anyone is visiting the Northumberland Archives would they be able to check this please. I can return the favour for any records in Wiltshire.
Mary Ann was previously married to Thomas Routledge under the name Mary Beddow in Oct- Dec 1922 this took place in Cowpen and her marriage to Edward Beddow April - Jun 1915 was registered in Newcastle.

The Elizabeth on the 1851 census is Peter’s second wife Elizabeth Jones who died in 1858. Elizabeth Nicholas died 6 months earlier than this second marriage. Second Marriage Certificate gives Peter’s father’s name as William Cornelius and I think it says his profession is Out of Doors man so probably military. (Peter was using the Cornelius surname on and off between 1851/61) I can’t find a baptism for Elizabeth Nicolas in Trowbridge so I don’t think the family came from here originally, the growth of the woollen mill industry attracted people to the area so a marriage in Gosport is possible. I thought the 1861 census read as Lucca, Italy and there was a naval battle in the 1790’s in that area of Italy that had British sailors put their ships in for repair.

Whilst undertaking your research have you found any connection to a William Spencer son of Henry Spencer who married Catherine Darcy in Balbriggan 9th November 1872.

I contacted Milltown directly with all the information I had on the ancestors I was looking for and they sent me details of all the burials in that particular plot so it is worth making contact with them.

What sort of information is held on the old age proof of extraction claim forms 1841-1851 that www.ancestryireland.com have available to their guild members?
