Wexford / Patrick Walsh and Ellen Redmond
« on: Monday 03 October 11 01:30 BST (UK)  »
Patrick and Ellen married in Enniscorthy in the fourth quarter of 1889 (Enniscorthy vol 4 p249). The 1901 and 1911 censuses give a range of dates for their births - Patrick in 1901 was 32, but in 1911 was 44. Likewise Ellen was 29 in 1901 and 40 in 1911.  Can anyone please throw any light on who might have been their parents?  Ellen is believed, according to family history, to have come from an English family, but at present the story stops with these two people!

Photo of their gravestone attached. This states Patrick to have been 73 when he died in February 1941, and Ellen to have been 79 when she died in December 1950. This gives more accurate dating, but even so there are still a range of possibilities.

Many thanks Shane. I was aware of the frequency of the name thereabouts!  I should be able to obtain Jack's marriage certificate, so maybe that's where to start.  He was always called Jack, so John Joseph would be quite a turn for the books! It certainly looks a possibility, and I will take a chance on getting the certificate.   Edwin

Wexford / walsh family

I have just started to search for part of the Walsh family from Enniscorthy. My only lead starts with my childrens' grandfather, Jack Walsh, who was born there on 4 August 1912, as recorded on his death certificate in England in 1987. I believe his mother may have been called Sally, or perhaps this was an elder sister who helped look after the large family of some 13 children. He emigrated sometime after that date, and married in England in 1943, and I cannot as yet trace his parents back in Ireland. He was very much involved with horses. The Irish IGI has not come up with any suggestions at all, and he was born just too late for the 1911 census.

I know the family was extensive, but could anyone please help with getting started with this one?

Bonsoir Anna!  I guess you live in France?

You have presented me with a challenge!  I have my father's papers to hand, and find that I have yet to annotate them and arrange them in order.  However they do form a tree, although not very many sources are stated. Most come from other family members:

Robert Hobson bap. 28 ix 1766  m. Elizabeth Dodds (I think) b. 1764  He was my GGG Grandfather.

Robert (junior) is at present the only recorded child, born 17 vii 1804. The family lived sometime at Briggate, Leeds and I believe owned/worked in a brush factory. He died 23 iii 1857, buried at Finchley Cemetery, London, Grave 48 St Pancras Ground. He married 25 ii 1831 Mary Ann Dalby ('May'), she b. 25 ii 1810, d. 3 v 1850.

He married for a second time Harriet . . . b. 28 ix 1810 where and when I do not know, but no issue.

Children are:
Maria Dalby Hobson b 26 xi 1831 left for Australia 6 vii 1852. Married Henry Hooke (Harry) 8 vi 1854. I have two further generations. Sounds as if she is 'Nina'.
Five recorded children.No further details.

Elizabeth Hobson ('Lizzie', and later 'Lil') b. 10 viii 1836  d. ?
Married 1 = Richard Dalby b. ca 1834 d. aged 26 on 27 x 1860.  I have one of her visiting cards in the name of Mrs Richard Dalby, also that of her husband, coupling her maiden name of Hobson after his death.  Have traced no issue.
Married 2 = W Crawford Mollison 1862

Robert Hobson, Congregational Minister, b. 11 vi 1838 Sandwich, Kent. Married Polly Adams, and went to Melbourne. d. 1891. One child died n infancy.

Martha Ann Hobson  b. 12 x 1841.  m. Gordon Blair.  No further details.

Samuel Hobson  b. 15 i 1844.  Had 3 sons and 4 daughters (no details)

Mary Ann Dqlby Hobson  b. 6 ix 1846, d. 7 xi 1847

Mary Ann Dodds Hobson  b. 13 ii 1848,  d. 15 xi 1849.

James Dalby Hobson  b. 28 iv 1849  bap. 25 v 1849, Leeds.
Married 1 = Martha Adams dau of Thomas and Amelia Adams of Romford, Essex.  b. 31 x 1852.  d. 2 xi 1908. buried Maidstone Cemetary Grave 144 Div. 2, Section E. They had six children, including my Grandfather, Bernard Dalby Hobson, b. 1883 at Briggate.
Married 2 = Katherine Maria Theobald  b. 4 ii 1874 - one son and two grandsons.

I have extensive Mollisons, names but no dates. My mother Eileen was in extensive correspondence with Eileen Ledlie Willson, dau of Florence Mollison, the younger sister of Crawford Henry Mollison 2, eldest son of Wm. Crawford Mollison 1, from whom came much of his informaton.

Likewise some Wilsons and McClures, also Goldies in Canada.

I shall try to assemble much of this on an Excel file over Christmas, but it will take a little time.  When done perhaps we can compare further notes.

Where do you fit into all this??!

I think I have found your Crawford 3, as Crawford Derek Mollison, whose parents were Mollison 2 and his second wife Corientia Browne. But this isn't your Grace Thomas!! It makes him the eldest son of the eldest son.

Have a very happy Christmas . . it's snowing hard here in Oxford!

Edwin

Dalby Hobson and Mollison

I have lately found this exchange on Rootschat, but don't really know what the original subject matter was or questions were!

Both the Hobsons, and to some extent the Dalbys, appear on my mother's family tree, and I have some unpublished information about the families. My mother, Eileen, was a Dalby Hobson before marrying my father.

Delighted to swap what information I have with whoever is wanting answers! I am not sure if I can answer questions about the Australian relatives, but I can trace the Hobson family quite a bit further, and a little about the Dalbys.

Please could someone update the URL for the Wills of Elizabeth and Crawford?
http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search_results.asp.  I get a "page not found" for this.

Many thanks.
