Carmarthenshire Lookup Requests / Re: Look-up - James Henry, Llanddarog 1814
« on: Sunday 05 December 10 19:15 GMT (UK)  »
hi mads
james henry was my g g g grandfather, his parents were - rees henry b.1786 in llanarthney and charlotte b.1786 carmarthenshire.. rees' father i believe was a william henry b.1761 but this is not yet confirmed.
in 1841 they lived in a cottage named bigefryn, in 1851 they still lived in the same cottage but now named abergefryn, they remained in the same cottage untill at least 1861, by 1871 they had moved to the nearby property of llygaid yr haul, james'  son john henry my gg grandfather remained at abergefryn but by 1881 had moved to penllydiad, all these properties are in the now village of capel seion near drefach, carmarthenshire. in fact llygaid yr haul and abergefryn still exist. if you google abergefryn you will find photos of it as it is now and a photo taken circa 1900 which shows it as a thatched cottage, unfortunatly the people in the photo are not the henry's as they moved on some 30 yrs prior.
as for Ann harry ,her parents were david harry b.1786 and mary b.1891. both born in carmarthenshire, in 1851 they lived at cwmbach in the hamlet of trecastell (present day foelgastell)
let me know if you need any other info.
regards
martyn.

going by the names in your line and the names in mine its very probable that they are connected, as i prviously indicated i think that your james b.1882 and my william b.1809 may well have been brothers.

ref the 1881 census that osprey refers to above, just had a look at it, the address is def ffosyffwrn,
ffos - ditch/moat/trench.  y - the.  ffwrn - oven. the occupant is james griffiths b. 1802 former carpenter, this is not the family i have followed, although this james b.1802 may well be a brother of the william griffiths b.1809 carpenter of pantycoed, b. at mydrim who married amy which i followed.

confused,
i have james griffiths b.1853 llanwinio and wife catherine living at pantycoed, llanwinio in the 81 census, also residing there is his mother amy b.1812. james recorded as a farmer of  3 acres and a carpenter, pantycoed having been the family home since at least 1841.

hi ash
came across this quite by accident,  trying to identify pantycoed in upper hamlet,  llanwinio,  surprise surprise im looking at the same family !!!!! who are very distant ancesters.
a close neighbouring property in the 1881 census to pantycoed, upper hamlet llanwinio is myrtle hill, google this address and it is in the hamlet of present day gellywen which is a couple of miles south east of the hamlet of llanwinio, and coincidence of coincidences my brother lives in llanwinio !!
