Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Looking for parents of Francis Barlow Bap 1717 Braithwell

Thank you Sandra.  Great work.
That is a fabulous website isn't it.  However, I still can't find out anything about Francis' father, Samuel.

I guess the parish records haven't been recorded for wherever he came from.

Judy

Wondering if anyone has any information on this Barlow family.  Francis Barlow bap. 23.8.1717 in Braithwell.  Father: Samuel.  I am having trouble finding Samuel and who he married.
Francis married Sarah Traviss 1743 in Darton and his children were born in Rawmarsh.

Any help with this brick wall would be appreciated.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Ann LEDGER

Thank you KLM for your reply and for giving me Charles Maybury's birth date.   :D
Actually I had to read your reply several times before it sank in.  You are saying that Ann Ledger, d/o Henry may have first married Thomas Heptonstall, and Thomas H died 1801.

So Thomas Maybury (widower) and Ann Ledger (widow) have married.
WOW.  Thank you so much.

I'd still like to find the marriage record though.  Would Ann have remarried as Ledger or Heptonstall?

Arabella Barlow's parents Thomas and Rebecca (Green) both died at Kilnhurst and I have their burial dates.

Thank you so much for the information

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Ann LEDGER
« on: Monday 12 December 11 21:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,  I am hoping someone can help me with some Yorkshire rellies. :)

I am researching Ann Ledger who married Thomas Maybury (Mayberry/ Mawberry/ Mowbray etc.) around 1804 somewhere in Yorkshire and they had a son Charles Maybury baptised 15.9.1805 Wath upon Dearne .   Thomas's first wife Arabella Barlow had died in April 1902 in Rawmarsh, aged 21.

Can't find Thomas and Ann's marriage and don't know if they had any more children or anything else about them.

Thomas' son by his first wife Arabella Barlow, William Mayberry, was transported to Australia after being Court Martialled in Guiness, France in 1818, after he and his friend tried to steal a portmanteau from a French official, during the war.

On Charles' baptism record it says Ann's father's name was Henry and Thomas' father was William.

I'm wondering if anyone has come across Ann or Henry in their research?   I'm not sure which village she is actually from.

Surrey / Re: Birth Look up Edmund Galley

Wow, thank you to everyone who has helped me with this.  You are right, I have been busy, been away off and on, but should have noticed all this sooner.

Edmund was one of the lucky ones in Australia, as he was assigned to a caring master and he stayed on the one property, (which was out in the sticks, as we say) for most of his life.  It was a sheep station and he was a shepherd. He always claimed he was innocent and just before he died he did get justice but did not live very long to enjoy it.

In August 1881 the newspapers of the day were still reporting that Edmund wanted the compensation in cash and that the government were still deciding whether to give him land or cash.

He did end up with Land, 320 acres of it, not far from the property he worked on - but whether he bought it or it was bought for him I don't know.   Edmund Galley died 6.11.1885 - I haven't been able to find a death certificate for him as yet, so don't know what happened to him, only probate records showing his date of death.   His widow died 2 years later.

Thanks again to you all.

I hope I am in the right place to ask this question.  I am wondering if anyone has access to birth records for Kingston.  I am looking for an Edmund Galley born c1798-1812.  He was quite famous as the convict who received compensation and a royal pardon 44 years after he was transported to Australia.  At his trial in Devon 1836 he said he was 26 and born Kingston.   When he received his pardon in 1879 he was 80, so I don't know his DOB.
Any help appreciated.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Preston Lancaster Quarter Session Lookup
« on: Friday 03 December 10 22:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone, just wondered if anyone could do a lookup for me.  I am in Australia and have a convict, George Moore, who was sentenced to 7 years transportation in 1819.  I believe the actual conviction was on 22.4.1819 and the charge was Larceny.  I have looked up the Lancaster Archives and they have an entry for William Hatton, William Lawson and George Moore and the record number for the Bill of Prosecution was QSP/2749/149.   I am looking for his trial record and also if anyone knows if he was actually born in the area around 1790.
Any help would be appreciated, as I am still looking for his death out here as well - there were many many Moore's transported.

regards
Judy
