New Zealand Completed Requests / Georgina Connolly Long nee Doolan
« on: Friday 02 January 15 20:00 GMT (UK)  »
I am keen to know more about Georgina Connolly Doolan.

I have Doolan and Connolly ancestors from Ireland with these names.
Georgina appears to have come to NZ around 1864.

Eliza Doolan came out about the same time.

Thanks
Julie

Thank-you. That's my first link between Isaac and John English.

There's a possibility John ENGLISH was Wm John ENGLISH, and prior to Philipsburgh Ave, he may have lived in Dawson Ave.

I am so grateful for your help.

Happy and prosperous New Year.

Julie

I have a Wm Doolan ENGLISH among my ancestors. I was wondering where the name 'Doolan' might have come from. He was christened 17/10/1821 at St Georges, Dublin to Wm John and Anna Eliza ENGLISH. My grandmother had told me her Grandmothers maiden name was Dillon, but I am wondering if it might have been Doolan....any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks

Julie

Thank -you for that.

J English is mentioned in 'Drumcondra or Clonturk Civil Parish, Co. Dublin, Ireland'

From A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland (1837) by Samuel Lewis

http://www.from-ireland.net/dub/lewis/clonturk.htm

John English is reported as presumed dead for approx 7yrs in 1848 (Freeman's Journal). His daughter's death certificate lists John as an army officer, while her marriage certificate had listed him as a surgeon dentist.

An article 'The Parish Maker's of Clonturke' in the Freeman's Journal from the 1830's reports on conversations from Surgeon English of Phillipsburgh Ave, Sir Coghill and the Church representative.

Any help in dtermining where J ENGLISH disappeared to would also be appreciated. For good measure, someone kindly found a reference to a christening of a child with parents listed as Wm John  & Anna Eliza ENGLISH. Also a William English, dentist, in Dawson St about 1826 from memory.

Thanks again
Julie

Do you know of any publication on the history of the area from the 1830's. John English might have been Wm John English. He was a 'surgeon dentist', although possibly in the army.

Any photos of any of the addresses would be intersting.

Thanks
