Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / John Broadbent of Halifax
« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 15:45 BST (UK)  »
Looking for a John BROADBENT of Halifax who is not the Ag labourer in the 1841 census. This John was a weaver or possibly a Cloth Dresser, born c.1775-80. Eldest s. William born c.1803 (don't know where) and youngest s. John b.1818 in Sowerby.

I'm in Australia, and can't find anything online. Can anyone help please?

Gareth

Many thanks Adam for all the info you're passing onto everyone. Unfortunately all these folks are too late...I can't make a connection from a Simpson-Dixon marriage in 1767.  But you never know when the info might suddenly become useful...

Thanks again,
Gareth

Jim, that's very interesting!

Joanna Ann Richardson is my GGG Aunt (I'm related through her older sister Margaret) and we know quite a bit about this branch of the Burgon family since the 1840s. I've sent you a separate message

Hi Arquebus,

Can't see any link here with my lot...

Also, I'm not sure why someone working as a domestic in Cramlington during the war would have a child in Brampton. It doesn't make a lot of sense

On a quick check, the only Thomasina I can find (thru FreeBMD & Scotland's people) is the same one born in Berwick 1902 and that married Peter Dick in Scotland.

Note Burg*n is an Irish name too.

That's a good idea Jennifer. Seems as though the other entries are already locked, so can't do much now. But if I have to post another general trawl for info, I'll cross-reference them myself.

Scotland / Help wanted on Wedderspoons!

Has anyone come across the Wedderspoon (or similar spelling) family in the 1790s in Newcastle?

John Wedderspoon, mariner, poss. from Scotland m. Esther Allison in Bishopswearmouth, 1790.

dau. Mary b. 1791 Sunderland, m. John Urwin 1816
son John b. 1792 Sunderland, m. Margaret Gates(?) 1812
dau. Elizabeth b. 1797 Newcastle, m. Joseph Tate 1818
dau. Ann, b. 1800 Newcastle, m. Joseph Richardson 1818

All children were married in Newcastle.

Does anyone know anything about any of these people? It appears that these are the only Wedderspoons in Newcastle at this time, although it seems to be a more common Scots name.
