Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: South Stoneham Parish records, help please
« on: Saturday 28 March 09 16:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Debbie.  I notice that you are interested in the surname Phillips of Botley and Southampton.  My Great, Great Grandmother was Mary Ann Phillips, born 1814 in South Stoneham, although in the census records she is down as being born in Botley.  I believe she was the daughter of James Phillips and Elizabeth Dolling.  In 1841 she marries John James Target in Islington, Middlesex.  Between that date and the 1851 census the family dropped the surname Targett, and it became James.
I have been searching for a connection for a long time as they might be able to shed some light on an old family story.
Best wishes, Sue

Thanks Ryan. It's been suggested that I contact Hackney Council.  I'll e-mail them.  Can't get there myself as I'm in the wilds of Scotland.

Hi,
I've been trying to get a list of Mayors of Shoreditch.  I've e-mailed Tower Hamlets three time, but have never had any sort of reply.  I can't go and look myself, as I'm in Scotland!

Completed Census Requests / Edwards & Sons, musical string makers
« on: Sunday 27 March 05 12:14 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in a company called Charles Edwards and Sons, musical string makers & sausage skin manufacturers & glaziers' diamond makers.  Edwards were to be found at 41 Cowcross Street, E.C.?; Tileyard Road (where my several of my ancestors worked); York Road N.? and Foreign Cattle Market at Depford, S.E.?
I believe they were a very old firm.
Can anyone help with the research?
Thanks,
Sue

I am interested in a list of mayors of Shoreditch.  I know one of my ancestors should be on the list, but I don't have a name.  It would have been in the 19th century and, perhaps up to the 1920s. I have written to Tower Hamlets three times, and they have never got back to me.  I should have thought there was a list in the civic buildings somewhere.  Can anybody give me a hand?

Completed Census Requests / Re: 1851 + 1861 Cambridgeshire Lookup

Hi again Shanko!,
Just left a message on the Battersea site about the Targett’s and thought I’d search for Cherry Hinton.  Low and behold I come across you again!.  I have some Paton’s and some Pattens in my tree. Not a William or a Kaziah, but quite s few others.  I have an Arthur Mason born Cherry Hinton around 1850 who married Eliza Cornell, my 1st cousin 4 times removed.  Also a Harriet Mason who married Horace David King, my 2nd cousin 3 times removed.  In fact, as I have traced my family in Cherry and surrounding areas since the 1540s, I seem to be related to most families there in one way or another.  Do try the Cambridgeshire Family History Society.  I have posted information there in the past including pictures of graves that include, as far as I can remember, King’s, Paton’s and Cornell’s.
