George is in my tree too
He is my gg Grandfather
He remarried after the death of his first wife  and had another child, James who I am descended from.
After living in
The family moved to Battersea and he died there I think in 1878.
_ I am just recalling this from memory so it may be a bit inaccurate.
I have his mother and father's names and marriages somewhere and also his sibling's names as I was able to look them up in the parish records.
I have details of his children from both marriages and also going further back - but am decorating and can't access them at present. let me know if you would like me to send them when I'm straight! Alice

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: Faichen
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 22:49 GMT (UK)  »
I am directly related to William Faichen who was born in 1780/90 ish. I believe his father was a publican in Portsmouth. According to the book 'The Annals of Old ropley" (you can Google it as it is on the net) He ran away from his father's pub in Portsmouth. I believe samuel ran a pub in Medstead before going to Portsmaouth, and there are Faichen baptisms in that church - but not for my William ( not sure about your Ann).
It may be worth looking at them to see if she is there.
Hope this helps

Norfolk / James Cox, Blacksmith born 1835 Thetford Norfolk.
« on: Thursday 01 November 07 23:15 GMT (UK)  »
James is a major brick wall!
He married Elizabeth Carson and by 1861 he was living in Kent - in 1871 in Woolage . I do not have them on any other census.

James was born in Thetford - but I have looked at the baptism records for the 3 churches and drawn a blank. His father was George - a shoemaker. I cannot find any family either on 1841 or 1851 that fit the bill.

I guess he must have been an apprentice blacksmith somewhere - perhaps he was poor and was supported by  someone other than his family during his apprentiship. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I live in Norfolk - so I can follow up local records if I know where to look!
Thank you to anyone who can help

I have Faichens in my family tree - mine were from Hampshire but in my research I have spotted them in Scotland and I think there may have been some living in Ireland too!
Good luck with your research

George is also my 2x grandfather and my 2x grandmother was Emma Pike.
My G Grandfather was his son James who had a daughter Lilian(My Grandmother)
I have quite alot of information on the Dewurst's - mainly from the census.
Lilian's mother was Annie Dewhurst.
I found the baptism record for George and am hoping to persue this line further next time I finish Hampshire.
I would be very interested to hear more about Emma - I recently visited Langley Marish but have not found anything beyond her baptism
Have never heard of the Melmoths- am intrigued!
- Hoping to hear from you soon

Herts Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Stansted Hertfordshire census 1851/61 Rosebrook
« on: Monday 21 November 05 23:03 GMT (UK)  »
In 1861 , William had a daughter Mary living with him -
In 1851 he has daughters Eliza, Maria and Mary living with him - he is listed a s widowwed so I presume Elizabeth is not the mother of these children.

I  guess one of these girls may have been the mother of James Hopkins?
I am almost certainly related to William in some way but not sure how at the moment - I have mis placed my folder with the details....
Will contact you when I find it!
My Rosebrook relatives all came from Stansted Mountfitchet contact me if you think I can be of any more help

Hello there Ronin,

I wonder what my John Smith was doing in the same house as your rellie? I suppose it is possible that they were related in some way - perhaps Sarah was John's Sister? Maybe we will find out one day!

As you say you are new to this I will tell you what I would do....

I would apply for his marriage certificate or birth certificate (if he was born in 1837 - but the date could well be a little either way).

His marriage certificate will give you his father's name and occupation - and then you will be a step further back. Then you will be down to looking for his birth in the parish records - if you live near the records office that will be easy - if not a little harder!

I guess you have had a good look on the Internet  at various sites. Is he on the IGI for instance?

If you want details for 1841 and 51 census, I would put a message on the board asking for a look up for your man - his name is not too common unlike John Smith!

Hope you find your man - If I come across anything else about him in my searches, i will certainly let you know!
Alice
