Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Edith Lillie Doble (nee Knott) and Robert Doble
« on: Saturday 02 April 05 07:14 BST (UK)  »
In 1925 to 1941, Reverend Robert Doble (born 1883) was the joint principal and later the Principal at the Village, Great Chesterford at the Great Chesterford College which was a coaching establishment.  The College, assisted by experienced resident tutors, received pupils from the UK and overseas for individual tuition for University and other examinations.

Robert Doble's wife at the time I understand was Edith Lillie Doble (nee Knott) who was born in 1894 in Abingdon.   I understood that Edith died in 1948 but have been unable to find this out for sure.

However I have now received information to say that Robert had married a Constance Harriet Pinney in 1940!

Given this I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on either Robert or Edith still being married before Robert apparently went to work in Hathern Lestershire in 1945.

Of course any information would be appreciated about anything to do with Robert Doble.

Many thanks - Beverley

George Edward Chandler born 11 April 1874 in Tasmania, Australia. I have information about George who is my Great Grandfather.

It is the relatives from England that are proving to be fun.  I understand George's father, William Charles Chandler was born 29 March 1829 in Rotherhithe, St Marys London.  He apparently married Caroline Elizabeth Bryant.

I am told that William worked at a nursery at Enfield near London before coming to Australia in 1855.

I do not have any real evidence of the English side of things and would love to hear from anyone who can provide details or perhaps have this person in their tree.

Other people that fit into this tree (might help with the link) are Hogan, Paynter, Chamberlain.

Thank you in anticipation.

I am seeking response from people who may have any of the following people in their family tree.  I would also like a hand if possible about the Robert Doble's who are grandfather and great grandfather.

GGrandfather Robert Doble was born in Sheldon Devon in 1858.  I understand that he married in 1880 to Mary Lawrence (b1853).  Would anyone have more details about these people?

Robert Doble was born in Bath 1883.  He married Edith Lillie Knott who I understand died in 1948 but this is not certain as I cannot find who death.  My husband seems to think it was in 1948 but then I received some other advice saying that Robert Doble married Constance Harriet Pinney in 1940.  This is a new name for me.

Robert Doble was a minister with his last place being in Hathern.  He and his last wife (Violet - I don't know her maiden name), died in Hunstanton when they both drowned in the seas whilst trying to save their dog.  The dog came to shore safely.
I have not been able to get hold of a copy of information about their deaths or more information about Violet.

Finally, I have a Charlotte A Doble born 1859 in Luppitt, Devon.  Any information on this lady?

I was under the impression that most of the Doble clan came from around Somerset and surround areas but to date have not me anyone who has a link.

Cheers

The Common Room / Edith Lillie Doble (Knott) - missing
« on: Friday 25 March 05 04:32 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon

I have placed this message in the Common Room simply because I don't know which County to address it to.

I am trying to find some details regarding Edith Lillie Doble (nee Knott).  She was born Abingdon, Berkshire in 1894.  Now I thought she died some time in the 1940s but I have been sent a new bit of information that said that Robert Doble (born June 1883) may have lost his wife Edith earlier than that.

As Robert Doble was a Minister, I am not sure where he was in the 1940s if in fact Edith didn't die earlier.

Can anyone help me please?  I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me when this Edith may have died AND if Robert Doble may have married a Constance Harriet Pinney in 1940.

Thank you for your help

Good evening everyone

I am trying to learn if anyone knows of an article that may have in papers regarding the death of Rev Robert Doble who died in Hunstanton when he and his wife attemped to save their dog.  The dog swam ashore unharmed.

I do not know where to start and as this happened 12 August 1960, I don't think I will find anything about this on the internet.

It is great to go back into family history but we need to take care of more recent peices of the jigsaw too.

I would appreciate your assistance

Sussex Lookup Requests / Brighton newspaper -Doble
« on: Thursday 24 March 05 11:47 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening everyone

This is the first time I have contacted an English site but would imagine there are many people who would be able to help me.

I understand that there was an article in a major Brighton newspaper (I thought it might be the Argus as that appears to be the biggest).  This related to Brighton people who took part in the Normandy Landing.

I am in particular interested in something on Theodore Doble.  Would someone possibly have that article and would be happy to share it with us?

Many thanks
