My family going back a couple of generations all hailed from Blackburn St KP. There is a picture of my GGran standing, and there are a few women around her. I have no clue as to who they are right enough?

I would have to search and see if I've still got it? but if I find it, you're welcome to check if your relation is amongst them?

Thanks all for replies, much appreciated. Sorry about the late reply but I have been away working for a few days. Apologies.
To answer the questions, he is listed as Owen on my GGF's marriage cert too, and his occupation is listed as a carpenter. They were married in RC Church but I don't know as yet whether my GGF was baptised as  RC or whether it was his wife who was RC? Because as I stated, I can find no record of his parents marriage or his birth? My GGF John McCall is listed on the Scotland 1901 census aged 37? along with his wife and children. I have also searched the different variations of M'Call and also the spelling of Owen/Owan but didn't find anything. I found an Owen McCall on the Griffiths valuation site, but can't verify as the dates seem a bit early? I've also checked to see whether there were any other children born to his parents but didn't come up with anything either.
Thanks again for replies.

Cavan / Help please with my M'Call family

The earliest reference I can find for my GGGF John McCall is his marriage cert. He was married in Belturbet Cavan in 1882. His parents are listed on his death cert. as  Owen (Owan) M'Call and Margaret Smith. I can't find any marriage cert for them or any children born to this couple. I haven't found them on any census either. Any help to find any record of my gggf's parents would be great.

You could look in the newspapers on Find My Past searching by surname and area....there is much to learn from them....in particular the war years. Also try googling some family names....you will be surprised what comes up. Genuki is also invaluable for trade directories for your area of interest.

Obituaries and marriage announcements often give some details.  Local histories, too.  Best of all are small town newspapers.  Don't forget Google 'Book Search' - even seemingly inconsequential people are often mentioned.

That's good to know thank you, I will try all the suggestions. Thanks for your help.

Thanks aghadowey for your reply, was a bit lost as to where to start, I'll give your suggestions a go thanks. I don't know if this is a common thing? but I do have a favourite ancestor :) even although at the moment I only have statistics,  if I could just paint a picture of her life alone? I would like to be able to do that, but didn't know where to start. She was born in Ireland and came to Scotland, she married twice, had family to both husbands, but that's about as much as I know. Maybe I'm just looking for something out of the ordinary? rather than born/married/died. Thanks for your help.

I have been doing research for a number of years now, I think I've gone as far back as I can tracing people. I only have names, addresses, age etc, but would like to know a little more than just statistics. I have read on here, and other sites,  peoples stories about their ancestors, their life stories etc and have always wondered how they got information like that?
I would like to be able to do that, to have a story if you like, of some of my ancestors.
Where would be the best place to start research wise, and could anyone suggest any websites that would be good for reading about local history. (Mining community Scotland)
Unfortunately I don't have any older family members that would have been able to give me any info as they have sadly passed away.

You mentioned Dundee in Scotland, I am Scottish and I would pronounce Tierney as teer/nay
with the pronunciation being more "eee" and as in the sound a horse would make...  neigh   ;D
teernay

Don't know if this is of any help? but there is a Thomas & Catherine Plunkett listed as witnesses on my ancestors baptism cert. They are listed as sponsors to a William McGuire born Feb 1901 in Drumlane Co. Cavan. The parents are William McGuire and Catherine Fitzpatrick.
