DamonC I take it your referring to me regards Crawford, it is my maternal line and trace back to Ireland with a marriage in 1876 in Lisnaskea/Moat between my gg grand parents James Crawford (1842-1915) and Jane McManus (1848-1885) they arrived in Glasgow after feb 1876 and had my grt grandfather John in dec 1876 so they are after your dates given and I have no concrete info regards before 1876 apart from guessing their exact ages which are derived from their marriage cert from Ireland then census and death certificates, James Crawford (1842) did die in the Govan Poor House in 1915. He and Jane had four sons John (1876 my grt grand father) James (1878) Edward (1880) and Charles (1882) no issues/children for the 3 later named Charles died 1908 in Uruguay/montevideo while working on a steam ship James and Edward both died in Glasgow 1950/45 both single and like i said with no children. garngad

I have changed the title of the post in reflection that others looking up the surnames might have the interest of the replies. garngad

Thanks RJ i realise that was prevalent but it dosent seem to be the case as they retained the surname McElhinney on all their certificates it seems only those certs i have earlier mentioned regards the mothers surname I think after aghadowey's post that it seems more than likely that the mother had reverted to Campbell rather than McCallion as her maiden name why i know not but im glad that I havent got the family mixed up so once again thank for the input. garngad

Well well thanks for the speedy and informative response aghadowey I would never have thought of that to link both surnames (or the one according to your link), so do you think she was known by both to her family maybe the older children thought Campbell sounded more Scottish to fit in with their new begining in Scotland many thanks for your response. garngad
