The Common Room / Re: BRICK WALL > HEAD - REPEAT MATHESON/MATHIESON + MCPHIE
« on: Saturday 10 December 16 19:00 GMT (UK)  »
I checked out Family Search as suggested. The father is listed as Daniel McFie but I have the marriage cert for Isabella and George Steel confirming that the father's name was John McPhie. Looking again at the certificate though I can see that Christina's surname may not be Matheson after all.. looks like McCallum but really hard to read the writing.

The cert also shows that at the time of George and Isabella's marriage, both Isabella's parents were deceased which ties in with my earlier suspicions that they were living with the aunt and uncle in Glasgow as per the census. Marriage was in 1878 and the parents were deceased prior to 1871 census.

So John McPhie and potentially Christina / Christine McCallum?? Nothing on Scotlands People.

I really do appreciate everyone's suggestions.

Hi

Quote
I have a Christine/Christina Matheson (or Mathieson) marrying a John McPhie. I estimate births to be around 1835 but have no details on where or when they were married or any other children.

With so little info - how do you know this marriage is correct?

How have you linked the 3  children to Christine Mathieson & John McPhie given they were not with parents in 1861 and Daniel is shown as "Netar" in 1871?

I don't know that the parent are correct. That's why I have attempted to trace Ann and Marie but am not getting anywhere with any of the family members. Can't even find a birth record for either of them which is frustrating.

Isabella (1860) is my relative so I'm confident she is correct, the father and mother I can't remember how I traced them originally as it was a few years ago but I can't seem to locate any other information that either proves it or disproves it. Just seems to be a dead end.

Could this be a death for May  :-\

March qtr 1922
May Pettigrew    age 28
Nantwich reg district    8a   477

There are no deaths for Christine/a McPhie on Scotlands people within the timescales that you would assume. I would have thought she died following birth of Marie so between 1858 and 1871. Can't see anything for her though. Nothing that seems to fit anyway.

Is this 1861 entry  a coincidence - all b Barony except Daniel

I Dock St Barony Glasgow

Daniel Mcphee   34 blacksmith b Rothesay Buteshire
Isabella Mcphee   29
Archibald Mcphee 5
Mary Mcphee   3
Dugald Mcphee   1
Glasgow Barony ED 54 Page 4 Line 8

This has thrown a spanner in the works. Hopefully this is a coincidence, the names I imagine are quite common, but that the ages are similar is worrying and Daniel being from Bute too...

I took Rhitany from the 1871 census to mean Rothesay, but unsure if both of these are the same family. Spelling of surname is different

Apologies you are correct. I meant the 1871 census.

I have attempted to search scotlands people for Isabella and Ann's birth to confirm that I definitely have the parents correct. Not getting far though.

I found the birth of an Isabella McPhie in 1861, but wrong child.

I have tried but am getting nowhere fast with a line of my tree.

I have a Christine/Christina Matheson (or Mathieson) marrying a John McPhie. I estimate births to be around 1835 but have no details on where or when they were married or any other children.

They had 3 girls that I can find Isabella, Ann R and Marie. For some reason the 3 girls end up living with their aunt and uncle - Isabella and Daniel Netar in Glasgow by 1951. Daniel is down in the census as being born around 1827 in Rhitany, Buteshire... no details of this location and nothing that I can see in way of birth records. Was hoping I could trace his marriage to Isabella to confirm her parents and then work back that way.

Can anyone see what I am missing with this one?

Second issue I am having relates to my great grandmother's parents.

Margaret M Pettigrew was born 1912 in Liverpool. I had Peter Pettigrew as her father and May O'Conner as her mother. I believe both to have born in Ireland, but can't get any information on them at all. Given that it's a relatively recent search you'd have thought it would be simple to trace this line but I can't seem to get further with it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lanarkshire / Re: EUPHEMIA / EUPHEMIE ANDERSON / BAILLIE

Euphemia Anderson was a wrong connection, I had the wrong John Baillie as Euphemia's father.

I too downloaded the birth cert today and found Euphemia as having John Baillie and Sarah James as the parents.

I also have her grandparents now as George Baillie and Euphemia Smith, though they don't appear to have married or at least not in Scotland.

Thank you so much for looking into this, I got led astray by John Baillie and Euphemia Anderson and assumed with the name matches that they were her parents.

Hi, thanks for that. I have been on ScotlandsPeople today and was searching. I had assumed she had divorced so didn't search fro McGraw.

Thanks for the tip!  ;D
