Cork / Re: Cunningham Birth

Thank you all for your help.
I think I will go with David b. 1888 and start again looking for parents John Robert + Louisa.
I went with the other David as that's the only one that kept coming up.  (looks like I'm not the only one that has gone with the same family, looking at other trees).
Now my D.I.L has started asking her Gran about the family we may find out more, without finding out about the Irish connection we would never have known.  All she needs to find now are the birth cert. hopefully her Gran may have them somewhere.  If not then she will have to send off for the birth and marriage cert.
She has spoken to her mother today who remembers Marie + Buddy, so yes this seems to be the right family.
Thank you all again and special thanks to 'haywood'

Thank you so very much Heywood.   No after speaking to her Gran, she said she wasn't sure if Phyllis was right or not.  All her Gran told her was that her Grandfather was born in Ireland and that David was married to a Mabel, his siblings were a Buddy and unknown female.  Other than that we know nothing. David I believe was born in India so all info I've collected re-David and Phyllis seemed to fit, marriage and probate info.
Her Gran has a lot of old photo's which she has been showing her, but haven't come across any certificates (yet).  She has only just started asking her Gran about the family, so hopefully more will be revealed..
Yes, the other Cunningham family living in Westminster is wrong as they are still there in 1939  The ones in Sutton seems to be right, as this is where the family settled.

Thank you again.

I think I have David + Mabel for 1939 living in the Sutton area.  Two names blanked out. States he was a Schoolmaster.  I need to get my D.I.L to ask her Gran about this.  I will check into James William Cunningham, I know at one point they were living in the Lambeth area amongst other areas also.

Thank you for your help...

Cork / Cunningham Birth
« on: Thursday 18 July 19 02:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,  could any one point me in the right direction to find out the details of the birth of a William Robert Cunningham, his D.O.B is 14 JUL 1919  Cork.
This is my daughter in law's Grandfather, whom found this out today from her Gran who's 96.
I believe his father David William Cunningham was in the Army and was posted all over the world.  So it's pretty hard to found anything about the family.  William had a brother but her Gran said his name was 'Buddy'?. and there may be a sister as well name unknown.
The mothers name was Phyllis Blanche Mayhew.  They married in Wandsworth London 1912.   Phyllis dies in 1936, David then marries a Mabel (as her Gran said he was married to Mabel? I cannot find a marriage) Any advise/help would be very appreciated.    Thank you

Australia / Re: Harry Edward de Gratte Maskens
« on: Friday 04 March 16 01:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jackie and Laura.  I'm Pauline the other 2nd cousin, that Frances made reference to.  The Charles Maskens on the 1911 census is a Charles Russell Maskens not Charles William.  Address looks like 7 Major Rd. Bermondsey.
The info I have is that Harry deserted from the Army in 1918. After this his then known whereabouts are in Australia when he marries Laura S in 1921, the same year that Joan is born.
I was told by an aunt that Harry married 4 times one using an alias, but as to date have found no proof.  This fourth marriage caused a big rift in my Granddad's family and my Nan refused to have anything more to do with him.  I was told he had a shop in Battersea, which would have been in the 1950's/60's.

Hi,  I have come across a 1881 census which could or could not be Walter B Crist (Trist).  Although the baby is Emma not Alma, but that could be that the person misheard the name?.   The area they lived in was St Pancras..

Thank you arthurk, it may be worth sending off for it then.
The chancery is full of names which tie in with the family.  But to memory as I haven't delved in to this for a couple of years, it seems it's the family against the widow and maybe property.  I remember it list's the executors of the deceased father, but I don't recall an outcome.  Time to go back and look again.
Thank you Bookbox, when I first received the chancery I did put extracts on here for help.  But must admit not knowing what I was looking at I never took it further.
With both your help, I now know what a chancery is and hopefully will be able to make better sense of it.  If not 'I will be back'.

Thank you both.  I would have liked a will to help make sense of the chancery.  But grateful that I asked first before I sent off for the information.
Thank you again.

I have found information which I am wondering if it is actually a will under this section on FindMyPast Prerogative & Exchequer Courts of York Probate Index, 1688-1858 The image is the only clue it gives.
To order it sent me to this site Borthwick Institute for Archives.  Has anyone any idea?
I have wasted money lately ordering wrong certs. so am a bit iffy ordering especially if it's not a will.

I already have a Chancery connected with this person.

Thank you
