I live in Wanganui. I have been to the local Heritage Library and looked up a card index of entries relating to newspaper entries. The following references are there relating to the Goaters.
Elizabeth Jane Goater  D Dec 21 1986  88 years
George Henry Goater   D Aug 8 1936   66 years  Living at Rapanui Road Wanganui. (this is near Westmere , about 8 km out of Wanganui.)
G H 's son  Claude Roland
C R's son  James Henry
Others related are
Barry )
Clarice
Steven
Bruce
Bruce Jr (Bruce's son)
I went and saw Bruce Jr who said that he didn't think any family tree had been done,so he sent me to Steven who confirmed that. Bruce Jr is going to England in June this year.
Those names listed above Steven are all deceased. Steven told me that he believes that there are only about 8 Goater families in NZ and all related. You can get copies of the newspaper cuttings about these people by e-mailing a request to the Heritage Library ,Wanganui. Google it. Hope this helps.

If you know where the person was adopted, apply to the District Court of that district for all the papers relating to the adoption. The matter will go before a District Court Judge who will decide if the information can be released. It helps if a close relative applies.Takes about 4-6 weeks. The information will disclose who was making the application to adopt. I have done this successfully.

Thanks for the information you gave. I already have all that information and came to the same conclusion as you and  I have been unable to find anything in the census's after 1861 or a death date. I have looked for emigration details, found nothing, and hoped that others may have known where they went. I thought they may have followed Ellen ( my G/G Mother)and the other Hights that came to NZ but I have found nothing here. It is a brick wall at present.

Northamptonshire / Rose(Rosa) Hight
« on: Tuesday 13 December 11 21:00 GMT (UK)  »
Rose Hight, one of a twin, was born 4 Feb 1838 in Broughton Northampton to Samuel and Mary Hight. She married Robert Thompson at Bermondsey(London) in June 1861. Where did she go after this? I have been unable to track her movements after this and wonder did she stay in England or emigrate? Is there anyone with Hight family information who could help me out or offer any suggestions? Cheers, Big Guy.

I live in Wanganui and I have been and talked to a * who has done a Gibbard Family Tree. He is familiar with the descendants you are enquiring about. He does not have a computer so I will PM you next week with an e-mail address direct to Colin's daughter (she is away until Monday) so you can get some answers. Cheers.
