Europe / Re: Royal Cantemir Family of Moldova 1600s - 1700s

So from wiki I also  found   Dimitrie Cantemirs son Antiochus Kantemir who apparently had illegitimate children and wiki doesn't show names......  Anyone know how to find out who his children were ??. I am going down the line of  Cantemir to see if it  meets with mine.

Antiochus died in 1744
My 3x great grandfather born in 1857

Only 113 years missing hah... unless i am looking at this  the wrong way. Anyway you are right i only need a to find a few generations to see if our lines match.

Me > my dad > my grandfather > Great grandmother Lena Kantymir > her father Semion Kantymir > His Father Gowrylo Kantymir  1857 Kitsman  Bukovina, Ukraine -  1907 Stuartburn, Manitoba Canada. Thats as far as i can go back..... And since i believe you have read what i said,  Dimitrie Cantemir family lived in Russia, and in Russian  Cantemir is Kantemir, and Kantemir  is a different spelling of my great grandmothers surname  Kantymir because I have living relatives with that variant spelling of  the last name.

Europe / Royal Cantemir Family of Moldova 1600s - 1700s
« on: Wednesday 06 August 14 20:18 BST (UK)  »
I would first like to say that, I think that I am a descendant of  this family as my great grandmother was a  (( Kantymir )) which i asume is just a different spelling of the original,  I could be completely wrong but maybe someone on these forums could help me out with  making the connection, basically there is a 134 years  lost that i can not connect the dots sorta speak to relate  my family line to the last Cantemir  Prince that ruled in Moldova. Here is a lengthy little piece  I wrote as to why i think my family is related.

The reason i wrote it the way it is was because I shared it with my other Kantymir relatives sorta as a family history lesson  which i think is legit. Just as a extra note so far the different sellings of the  name is  Cantemir // Kantemir // Ketemer // Kantymir

I would like to give a little family history lesson , Our Kantymir ancestors are our not so distant ancestors from Ukraine. But our kantymir blood line goes farther back then some of you might know, with very interesting information, that I have learned thanks to Jeanine Lebsack, Now i was also told that there was 100 years or so of family information lost do to that i don't know but i have a strong feeling this information is true or could be true. As we have recently learned there is a different spelling of our last name Kantemir / Ketemer / and ours Kantymir in history there is also another spelling called Cantemir which originates from Moldova which is a Romanian speaking coutry, the name Cantemir comes from Khan Temir who was a powerful khan of the Budjak Nogais (Budzhak Horde); around 1603. The family Cantemir were Royal's of Moldova back in the late 1600s to early 1700s, Constantin Cantemir sons Antioh Cantemir and Dimitrie Cantemir became a voivode at the age of 71 and made sure his sons had a good education, His eldest son was a Moldavian Voivode (Prince) between December 18, 1695 and September 12, 1700, and again from February 23, 1705 to July 31, 1707. His Brother Dimitrie Cantemir (Romanian: [diˈmitri.e kanteˈmir]; 1673–1723) was twice Prince of Moldavia (in March–April 1693 and in 1710–1711). Moldova under Russian suzerainty, after a secret agreement signed in Lutsk, Dimitrie Cantemir sought refuge in Russia, where he and his family finally settled, There, he was awarded the title of Knyaz (Prince) of the Russian Empire by Peter the Great and received the title of Reichsfürst (Prince) of the Holy Roman Empire from Charles VI. He died at his Dmitrovka estate near Oryol in 1723 (on the very day he was awarded the Roman-German princely title). In 1935, his remains were carried to Iași. And that is where i think our connection is after the Cantemir family went to Russia the family lived there for many many years and eventually branches of the family moved around the slavik speaking countries Ukraine / Belo-Russia / Poland etc etc and ours landed in Ukraine with a different variant spelling of Cantemir. Believe what you want but i choose to believe its true that our long distant ancestors were in fact the Royal Cantemir family of Moldova. The family name. Our long distant relatives are posted as ((Cantemirești family)) at this link which i will provide and will provide links of the family.

Cantemirești family)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constantin_Cantemir
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antioh_Cantemir
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimitrie_Cantemir

I would also like to note that Michael Ketemer said in one of his recent posts in the reunion page that one variant spelling of our surname is **Kantemir**, also Dimitrie Cantemir prince of Moldova name in Russian is Дми́трий Константи́нович Кантеми́р (Dmitriy Konstantinovich **Kantemir**). Which makes me believe even more that the information i posted is true. Hope it's a good read, give it a thumbs up if you like it, and leave a comment or two to let me know what you think

Europe / Am I Austrian ??
« on: Tuesday 04 December 12 23:11 GMT (UK)  »
Some of my ancestors were born in one of the Crown lands of Cisleithania which in that time period was apart of the  Austrian Hungarian Empire.  Is ones heritage that of where  your ancestors were born or is ones heritage that of what they truly are ? It says Austrian on my ancestors birth certificates but my family relatives say they  we are Ukrainian.  Since my ancestors were born in the Austrian Empire does that mean they were Austrian Ukrainians  or just Ukrainians living in a land ruled by Austria ???
