Australia Lookups completed / Re: George ROGERS of Parramatta

Beth,  As far as I know my George Rogers had a shop only in Parramatta St. Sydney, then he moved to Prospect and then to the Western Road , known as either Mays Hill, Westmead or Parramatta. I dont think he was  in Windsor, only Sydney and  Parramatta, - there was another George Rogers in Parramatta and Windsor.    George died in 1913.  He was still in Sydney in 1872 but by 1878 he was in Prospect.  Would you like more information on George Rogers?
Are you on the Central Coast of NSW??  Noreen

Hi Beth,

Do you know anything else about your George Rogers?  Perhaps his parents names, or where/when he was born/married/died? or if any children?

Some thoughts:

Have you compared his 1869 signature with his 1891 signature (on the probate packet records) to confirm he was same person?

Who was William Hurst related to? (does the probate packet show this, the index only shows John Hurst Date of death 1 June 1869, Granted on 13 July 1869, and does not mention it was reopened and resealed in 1891)

Some scant info on various George Rogers:

From Sands Directories Sydney 1867
George Rogers, baker at 406 Macquarie St, South
George Rogers, tailor at 25 Parramatta St

Sands 1869
George Rogers, Grose St Glebe
George Rogers, 406 Macquarie St South
George Rogers, tailor, Boundary St Waterloo

Sands 1871
George Rogers, tailor, 25 Parramatta St

Sands 1873
George Rogers, 404 Macquarie St South (yes, 404 !)
George Rogers, grocer, Cooper St
G Rogers, draper and hatter, 39 Parramatta St

Sands 1877
George Rogers, Missenden Road, Camperdown
George Rogers, 2 O'Briens Lane

So there's not a long list of candidates for your chap  ;)

Cheers,  JM

Cork / Re: BUTTEVANT Co CORK

Just found your query on Bresnahan/Brosnahan from Buttevant, Cork.   I am descended from Stephen Bresnahan, who was sent to Aus in 1826 for sheep stealing.   His son Daniel who married Catherine Barry came to Australia in 1841. I know Daniel had siblings, but dont know names. Like to hear from you.  Are you in Aus?   Noreen
