Armed Forces / Help me identify Medal - Royal Marines
« on: Tuesday 24 February 15 11:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me identify this medal? My GGG grandfather served in the Royal Marines between 1848 and 1869.

Thanks
John

Thanks,

My confusion was over the letters of administration, which appears in the indexes if there was no will. I understand (correct me if i'm wrong) now that if there was no will and someone applied for lettters of administration, only then will it be recorded in the index.

Hi all,

does anybody know the how complete the England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966 on Ancestry is?

Most of my ancestors do not appear in the indices, but even if they left no will, should they not be listed in the calendar?

Thanks
John

Hi,

Thanks for replying. The Portsea connection makes sense. The names below are both daughters, though its strange the second is referred to using her husbands initials (EC Wingrove should be AC Wingrove)

The Wigroves lived in India so the Patiala part also adds up.

Thanks again
John

Hi all,

I've found a reference to a divorce case for one of my ancestors, referred to in a later court case.

Quote
8. On the other hand, learned counsel for the respondent has placed reliance on Grace Hannah Wingrove v. Arthur Clement Wingrove 1904 Punj LR 296, Run Bahadur Singh v. Lucho Koer (1885) ILR 11 Cal 30l (PC), Midnapur Zamindari Co. Ltd, v. Naresh Narayan AIR 1922 PC. 241, Ali Ahmad v. Amarnath AIR 1951 Puni 444, Asa Bai v. Prabhulal AIR 1960 Rai

Does anyone know how I would go about obtaining a copy of the 1904 transcript, if it is even possible.

Thanks
John

The Common Room / Ordering more than one will at once

Hi All,

I would like to order 3 different wills from York. Does anyone know if I can put 3 PA1S forms in one envelope and 1 cheque for £18. Or would it have to be 3 £6 cheques in the same envelope. Or do they only accept 1 form per envelope?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks
