Hi Angie,
Just read your post.  I believe that Caroline was my g-g-grandmother's sister and I have a copy of the marriage cert.

Hi Ticker
Afraid its not the right person - my Alexander was a tailor, and a very elusive one at that  - not only does he appear from nowhere, he then disappears again 15 years later, leaving behind wife & kids!
Thanks for trying,
Julia

Hi Ticker
Thanks for asking.  I still haven't found Alexander in 1851 - he may or may not be in Sheffield but I know he married there mid 1850's.  He was originally from somewhere in Scotland.

Thanks for your reply.  I've already looked him up in the censuses and it just gives his birthplace as Scotland.  Very unhelpful!  Oh well, back to the drawing board!

Hi
Just found your post and wondered if you could help me.  I am searching for my Scottish roots, unsuccessfully so far.  I have an Alexander Donaldson born I think about 1832, son of Alexander, who turns up in England in the mid 1850's.  I only know that he was born somewhere in Scotland.  Any connection to your tree?  I know it's a 1 in a million chance, but I've run out of ideas!
Thanks Yoyo

Hi Anne
Your suggestions are equally possible, but I don't know how to prove/disprove them.  I have recently stumbled across a living relative of Alex and May (lamont) through another child, but still have no proof.  I need to be able to look them up in the 51 census for Fife but don't know where I can do this.
Thanks again

Hi Bryan
Thanks for the info but without a mothers name I have no way of knowing if its the right one.
You say you think you've found him in the 71 census - would this be in Durham?  I have the census details for a man that might be him but I can't be sure as he's not supposed to be there!
Thanks again

Scotland / Birthplace unknown

Does anyone have an Alexander Donaldson in their tree, born somewhere in Scotland about 1832, son of Alexander Donaldson a labourer.  He left Scotland as a young man to go to England, and became a tailor (not necessarily in that order!)
I'm desparate to find his roots.

Fife / census lookups
« on: Tuesday 14 June 05 10:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Could anyone please lookup up the following people in the 1851 and 61 censuses for Fife?
Alexander Donaldson - (age 8 in the 41 census)
Robert Donaldson - (age 7 in the 41 census)
In 1841 they were both with their family in Monimail and I believe both were born in Cupar.
Thanks
Yoyo ::)
