I am researching a Maria Cangiano born 27th Sept 1927 in Naples, Napoli, Campagnia, Italy. She married in 1946 in Italy to a William McTaggart and they came to live in Scotland where she died in Oct 1978. Where would I start with trying to find her parents names, or even confirmation of her birth or marriage? Any guidance very much appreciated.

Hi, I'm not sure when this thread started but I'm late to the table. This is a line of mine too and I am back with it to John Heron, weaver in New Galloway d 1808 and his wife Jane or Jean Clemie, Climy, McClymont, McClyment etc d 1791. He remarried  Helen Clark. The headstones are in Kells Cemetery, New Galloway. Anyone on ancestry could view my tree at Montague Tree in Progress, where there is much on this line.

James (Scott) Skinner the famous violinist and composer is buried in Allenvale Cemetery and there is an interesting memorial stone which I would like to get a copy of a photo of. As it would be a six hour drive each way to get this, does anyone happen to know if there are photos published anywhere of the interesting stones from Allenvale Cemetery? He died in March 1927. The memorial was unveiled by Sir Harry Lauder in 1931. There's seemingly a bust in bronze of Scott Skinner.  Any leads would be appreciated.

Have discovered the fathwer John MacLellan sometimes used the name Ian but he was a Liutenent in the Edinburgh Police and not the Gordons. Also the subject of my research, the son George Stewart MacLennan suffered polio as a child. I wonder how that affected being in the Army.

Another snippet from the small Biography is that he was in the trenches and became ill on May 14th 1918 but 'soldiered on'. It's said he made bagpipe reeds in the trenches for the pipers of the regiment. I am trying to find out his height becasue there is some doubt/speculation/excitement over a photo that is possibly him and finding out that he was five feet two rather than five feet seven inches tall would help us decide whether the man in the photo is him.

There was only one British army covering all countries of the UK. If there was a break in service the first part may be on Findmypast. As regards the second part, as he was serving after 1920 his second set (or the only set if he served straight through) will still be with the MOD.

With a senior NCO you should contact the regiment's museum as they may have some details on him.

How do you know the exact date he enlisted? What infromation do you have already?

Ken

I'll have a look at the www.veterans etc site. And I can contact the regiments museum too. I found the exact date he enlisted on a Biography of him. All the info I have on him is as above. I looked on FindMyPast but nothing there. Thx.
