Kent / Re: Joy/Botting/King/Martin Family of Brenchley
« on: Tuesday 04 November 14 21:58 GMT (UK)  »
Edward Botten/Botting was the son of Gilbert Botting and Esther Harblet nee Lefford. I have been unable to find the birth of Gilbert Botting anywhere. I think there are gaps in the Brenchley records in the early 1600s.

You were looking for Elizabeth in 1905. Did you ever find her? She was my gg grandfather's first wife.
She was buried July 4th 1852 at Horsmonden. Her maiden name was Joy.

Kent / Sarah Jane BODKIN
« on: Thursday 21 March 13 13:00 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know what happened to Sarah Jane BODKIN baptised in Brenchley, Kent in in 1854? She was the daughter of John BODKIN and Eliza HAYWARD. Sarah had 2 sons Frederick John (bap. 1872) and William (bap. 1874). Her father had died in 1855 and her mother Eliza remarried William James MOCKFORD in 1863. I the 1881 census Eliza and William MOCKFORD have Sarah's 2 sons living with them, but they are sent to Canada on the SARMATIAN in 1885 as part of the FEGANS group from Tunbridge Wells, arriving in Quebec on June 9th. By 1887 Frederick is with Mr A BALL at Niagara and William is with Charles E LACEY at Niagara Falls South. Later in 1887 Sarah Jane arrives in Canada and takes over management of the boys. I have found nothing about  Sarah or the boys since then.

Canada / William BROOKS
« on: Tuesday 19 March 13 23:22 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out what happened to my grandfather’s brother William BROOKS who (so I was told) emigrated to Canada. He was born on  December 11th 1887 and baptised at Horsmonden on January 21st 1888. His parents were William BROOKS and Esther BODKIN. On the 1901 census he is living with his parents in Horsmonden, but I cannot find him in 1911 when his parents were living in East Peckham. His mother died in 1916 and his father in 1925.
I have a photo of William taken in a Tonbridge photographers in which he would appear to be about 20/23yrs of age. He is wearing a suit, shirt, tie and has a watch chain visible. I wondered if it was taken just before he left England. The family apparently lost contact with him during WW1. I have searched passenger lists, Canadian war dead lists, and the 1911 Canadian census, but so far have not been able to link him to any of the numerous William BROOKS that I have found.
Is anyone able to help me find out what happened to William?
