I have info on a David Askin of Ballyboley who married Mary Adams in 1861. Mary died and David married Margaret Cavin/Cavin, David apparently moved from Ballyboley to Dunover. He had a forge at both locations. He died age 70, 2 Mar 1905, buried Carrowdore.

To "alfredsdad" (reply # 18), I would like to exchange Wilson information with you or your cousins. I have been researching several Wilson families in the Cappy/Cappogh, Lisdonan, and Drumbar area of Cavan. There were several Wilson families in this area. I am sure they are all related, but am not sure just how they are connected.

Re William Wilson & Mary Elizabeth Long, I have found a transcripion of a baptism in Knockbride Church of Ireland, for a Thomas Wilson, April 1838, and a William Wilson, April 1832, both sons of William & Eliza Wilson of Cappy.

William Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Long's daughter, Jane Wilson, (who married George Wilson of Cartwright, Ontario), received a letter from Lisdonan, County Cavan, Ireland in 1890. I have found that there was a Thomas Wilson who was a tenant in Lisdonan, and also there was a Stewart Long who was a tenant in Lisdonan. This is very interesting. I have researched a lot of information on the Wilson families in this area of Cavan( Cappy, Lisdonan, and Drumbar). I will go back to my notes and let you know what I discover.

I too am researching Wilson ancestors in Ireland. My people came to Canada from Knockbride Parish and primarily from the townlands of Lisdonan, Cappy, and Drumbar. I would like to exchange information with you or your cousin.

Cavan / Re: Johnston - Cavan Town

I have been trying to trace my Wilson ancestors who came to Canada from County Cavan for a lot of years. I discovered that they came from Knockbride Parish and I soon found that there were a lot of Wilsons from Knockbride! I believe that my Wilson's came from the townland of Drumbar, but when I checked Griffith's Valuation I found 2 John Wilsons and 2 William Wilsons in Drumbar.
I found that John Wilson, son of John Wilson, (b. about 1836) of Drumbar, Parish of Knockbride, married Mary Anne Vincent of Dooreagh, Parish of Drumgoon, 29 JUL 1858. Property records indicated that John left Drumbar about 1889 and that he went to Philadelphia, where he died in 1911. His address at death was 5726 Woodland Avenue. Mary Ann died 21 JUN 1909 in Phil.
While this branch of the Wilsons did not connect directly with my branch I am sure they are connected at some point.

Cavan / Re: 1901 Cavan census - Knocknalosset (Knockbride parish) - LUCAS

I have been researching several Wilson families in Knockbride Parish. An Ann Wilson married William Bodell 31 MAR 1851, Knockbride. Ann was the daughter of William Wilson and she was 21 years of age. (b.1830)
I have a transcript of a letter sent by a William Kelly of Lisdonan, Knockbride, to Jane Wilson in Canada. In one paragraph he writes to Jane " your sister Ann, she and her husband are well and her  family. She has 3 daughters away from home, 2 in New Zealans (sic) and 1 in Australia".
I have been unable to prove that this "sister Ann" is the sister of Jane in Canada.
There is a Wm. Bodel, and wife Ann, both age 65, in the 1901 Drumhilla census. Ann must have died between 1901 and 1911, because in 1911 William is a widower.
The spelling of name varies from Bodell, Bodle Bodel.

Cavan / Re: Hooey`s of Cavan

I have some transcripts of letters sent by David Hooey from Durham County, Ontario (Cartwright and Cavan Townships). David apparently had an agent in Cavan, Ireland, looking after his business in Ireland. In these letters he refers to many people both in Ireland and Canada.

I see that you are researching Vincent and Wilson. I have been doing research on several Wilson families in Knockbride Parish. A John Wilson married a Mary Anne Vincent. They had several children in Cavan and then moved to Philadelphia, PA. Some of the family were buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia.
