Thanks both Shane and Lanigangenealogy.

I've now tracked down my GGM - she was Mary Kelly born in Athy in November 1853. I have a fairly good hunch that I have also the names of both Patrick and Mary's parents. Little more digging to do yet though

I noticed on the Census Return that the property the family were living in both in 1901 and 1911 were owned by the Duncan Estate. I've been on Google Streetscene and you can get almost to where the original farm buildings were located in Ballybought.

I must confess that the challenge of tracing ones Irish roots is most satisfying when one gets a "hit".

Thanks to both of you for your encouragement.

Thanks Shane

Yes, I have details of both 1901 and 1911 census for Ballybought and the Lawlers.

I have ordered a birth certificate for my GM (b 1885) but there is some problem with locating the appropriate record.

I've been on-line researching the English side of my family for about five years now with great success but have now come to this great blank space called Irish Genealogy.

Hi

New boy here

I am trying to find my GGM's maiden name. Her christian name was Mary, born in Athy in 1853 and married Patrick Lawler (b Athy 1852) somewhere about 1882. After their marriage they lived in Ballybought. I believe this may be in the parish of St John's. Are their any existing records still in existence which might show her maiden name such as a marriage entry.

Ever hopeful
