Hi Kerry

Not sure what we are - always confused by first and second cousins, removed etc.  I think that my dad was first cousin to your granddad so maybe we're first cousins once or twice removed...

I'm happy to give you more information but would prefer to do it direct - not sure if there's a way of doing it here?  Otherwise, if you send me an email on (*), I'll reply.  Could attach the family tree insofar as I know it!

Rhonnie

This is what I know about George:  he married Maria Draper in 1916 and had one son (my dad, Jack Bourne).   I'm not sure how long George and Maria stayed together though.  The only thing my dad did admit to was spending a lot of time with his grandfather (Charles) when he was young - he seemed very fond of him.  George seems to have left Derbyshire altogether and later on had another family (though still married to Maria).  He had two daughters in the late 1940s and lived in the West Country!  I never found out if my dad knew about all this.  He had his own secrets and I think that's why he cut himself off from his Derbyshire family.  A shame really as we (me and my brothers) never knew Maria, our grandmother.  She died in 1960 in Newhall.  George died in 1957 in Bath.  All very strange!

Do you know anything about Leonard Bourne, b 1882? He's listed on the censuses as the son of Charles and Mary Ann but there's no record of his birth and he was born 2 years before they got married.  On his marriage certificate (1909), he leaves the father's name section blank too.  Just a bit puzzling.

Anyway, do ask anything else you think I might know.  Do you still live in Derbyshire?  I'm glad to finally find someone from the Bourne family!

Hello Kerry Ward (Bourne)

I think we must be related!  My father was Jack Douglas Bourne, son of George Godfrey Bourne, youngest son of Charles Bourne and Mary Ann Godfrey.  Are you descended from Willis Bourne?  (Only think this because of the Hassell surname.)

My father would never talk about his family background and we never met any of his relations.  This made me really curious, but thanks to the internet, I've been able to find out quite a bit which I'm happy to share though you probably know it already.

Would love to know more about the Bournes and other related families, especially as I've never had any contact with any relatives!

Rhonnie (not Amber - just an internet name) (and my maiden name is Bourne of course!)

Are you still looking for information about Charles Bourne and Mary Ann Godfrey?
Let me know if so - he was my great grandfather.

Regards.

Amber
