Thanks for the info and the details about the personal message.
A researcher in Scotland uncovered details from Edinburgh about the Mckays.

Hello,
My Great Grandmother Catherine McDonald (neeMckay) is Margaret Murray's (nee Mckay) sister.
You can email me at *. I would love some photos, and I have some photos and information about the family. You may also have this however. I have photos that I cannot identify so any photos you may have would help. David Murray's email would be great as well. Thanks for the reply.
regards
Ann

Regarding Walter Murray, child of John Murray and Anne Munro.
Walter sailed on the ship British Empire from England to New Zealand in 1864. He met Margaret McKay from Halkirk, Caithness, while on board and they were married in Dunedin's Knox Church in 1866  Walter was 22 years old and Margaret 30 . They moved to Dunback about one and a half hours journey  North West from Dunedin by todays travelling. Dunedin is in Otago, a province in the South Island. Walter farmed 930 acres at Dunback. They had 7 children. Six boys and one girl.
I have more information including spouses and children if you are interested.

Ross & Cromarty / McDonalds of Arcan, Muir of Ord
« on: Friday 09 September 11 23:09 BST (UK)  »
Am trying to find records of the McDonald family of Arcan, Muir of Ord, Urray parrish, Ross Shire( now Ross and Cromarty. Have found them on 1841 census, but no records after this. There was a Donald, Helen(Ellen)( nee Gordon), Mary, Alexander. Next door were the Gordons. They had other children, a John and possibly a Donald and Malcolm. John and a brother immigrated to New Zeland and Australia in 1862.

Hello Monica,
Thank you for that website. Wish I had known about it sooner. It would have saved me heaps. Did not find any Johns around same age living in Arcan. However did find a McDonald family with same names in Inverness. Donald, Helen, John, Alexander, Donald and Catherine. The age of John fits in with his age on his tombstone and marriage certificate as being born around 1824-5.
John had a daughter that died at 5 weeks who he called Catherine Ellen. Family oral history says he came from Inverness so maybe the family moved there after he was born.
Will try cemetary records to see if I can find records of death. Census states the family lived in Boleskine & abertarff. If I can find out Helen in this family was a Gordon, it looks like a a match.
Regards
Ann

Hello Monica,
The 1941 census looks good, but there is no mention of John who would have been either 10 or 15 depending on what birth date I go on.  Either 1825 or 1830. I guess he could have been at someone elses place when the census was taken, I do not have the financial wherewithal to pay for searches on Scotlands people to look among neighbours for him. Thanks for all your help.
Regards
Ann

Hello Monica,
Thanks will check it out, but her maiden name was Gordon and her first name Ellen not Helen. But often registrars made boo boos.
