Gloucestershire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: searching for a living person
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 13:36 GMT (UK)  »
Lil,

This is not the right place and how would anybody here be sure of your motives, you might be a debt collector for example?

Try the Salvation Army who have been finding lost people for well over a hundred years but, of course, it will cost you.

Regards

Chas

Gloucestershire / Re: Carter Family Chipping Sodbury

Adam,

Welcome to the best place there is. :)

Searching for Carter baptisms at Chip. Sod. via http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm gives nothing, so it seems the family came from elsewhere.

In order to be certain of ones facts it is adviseable to obtain birth and marriage certificates but after looking at James Carter GLS marriages post 1837 in freebmd ( http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl ), you may need some aspirin  :D

I dare say you will be given info. from censuses - my wife has an Ancestry account but her computer is so slow :'(

Chas

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: MARRIAGE 1770 / LT BARRINGTON
« on: Thursday 30 December 10 14:59 GMT (UK)  »
Alan,

At least you've one acceptable date - the marriage in 1770 was extracted from the Bishop's transcript for that year  :)

I dare say you've found the 104 entries for Mary B's in the IGI but your query doesn't mention the 1747 birth entry for a Little Barrington M. B.  ???

However, the Eastleach Martin and the Little Barrington data are submitted entries giving no verifiable source information (BT's: PR's etc) so might be fairytales in one or two or all respects :'(

The LDS formulae often used for "guessing" birth dates are marriage date minus 21 for females and minus 25 for males but they not a hard and fast rules.  ;)

You mention a birth in c1752 - the IGI does not give it and as it's circa 1752 it should not be accepted unless the source from which it comes is a verifiable church record.  :'(

Are you sure that their last child was actually born in 1797?  It would be far from unusual for a baptism of a prospective bride or groom to be performed shortly before marriage.  :) :)

The LDS library catalogue gives details of the filme of the BT's and registers for Little Barrington and it would be most unlikely the the register will help you.  Perhaps the Gloster R.O. will have the Banns records which might - just might - help.  ;)

Chas

Peter,

Have a search at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(N-Z).htm#T  you'll find quite a few Daws at Taynton and can search nearby villages the names of which you can find using Parloc a free prog. from http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

Twistedbranches - I know the feeling ;D

Firstly, I hope Arranroots reads this because in moving house and losing lots of e-mails besides my e-mails account I've managed to get locked out of my Rootschat account too and have had to start all over :o

To get back to the subject, I have a Stinchcombe Hazel in my tree - well, everybody needs a nut ;D - and a  few years ago I hired and searched the LDS film of the Stinch' BT's and found :-

1737  April 10   John Hazel married Anne Champion
Baps:-
1738  October   Mary daughter of Jno & Anne Hazel
1740  Sept? 21  Thos son of Jon & Anne Hazel
1743  10ber (aka Dec.) 15  Anne daughter of Jno & Anne Hazel
1747  7ber (aka Sept)  8?  Jno son of Jno & Anne Hazle

I've also had a look at my dogeared notes and found that on 11th Nov 1782 were baptized Thos and John sons of Thos and Ann Hazell.

Trust you may find the above useful.

Regards

Chas
