That's interesting, thank you. My grandmother was 10 in 1911.

:) Thank you, Lesanne. I hadn't realised the school on East Street was mixed - I know where to start asking at the record office now. Useful to know about the annex on Castle Hill as well, but I did know that as the Youth Club in my teenage years!!!

I am looking for suggestions for schools my grandmother may have attended while young (if at all). Her name was Gladys Burnham and she was living in East Rd, Maidenhead at the time of the 1911 census. I know there was a school at the end of East St but I think this was a boys school. Any suggestions where I can start? She eventually went to Gordon Road school.  :-\

Sorry I'm new to this!!  ::) Yes it was on Queen Street, Maidenheaad but I maybe wrong about what's there now - could be an estate agent. I took a picture of the church window, which is on the first floor, last year and the building has 'surveys' on the ground floor window & a part web address - www atk. Sorry I don't know the road names but the building is on the corner, or near the corner, of the road that comes down from the main car park, crossing Queen Street and going towards the Town Hall. If you turn left into Queen Street (not sure you're allowed!) it's on the right. I think it was actually a chapel though, not church.  :)

Does any one know of the history of the Primitive Methodist Church that used to be in Queen Street? I think it is a Building Society now but the lovely stained glass window is still there. My grandparents married there in 1923

I have just discovered this site and want to thank all those who have posted messages about the Home for Little Boys in South Darenth. It appears my Great Grandfather was there in 1891 when he was 11. I now know where to start searching for his records.
