Hello Heidi,

I read another posting you made in '08 I believe about John Shaw & Sons in Brighouse.  It said he wound up his business in 1903 or '04.  John would have been around 77 yrs old.
I'm planning on coming for a visit next spring and it would be nice to meet you Heidi.  I plan to do some exploring in the Halifax/Brighouse area.

Hi Heidi,

Thanks for your reply.  I understand now - the info I have had no Joseph listed, but I have the 1881 census for James. Do you know what happened to Thomas? Its a funny coincidence but my mother's maiden name is Morris just like Sophia's.  My mother's parents are from in or around London and immigrated to Winnipeg in the early 1900's.

Look forward to chatting again.

Hello Heidi,

The mystery continues!  I'm a bit confused Heidi - according to the information I have on the 1871 census the sons of John and Nanny are James age 21 and Thomas age 17.  Where there just the two boys?  Do you have their birth cert info? Was Joseph a second name for one of the boys?

Hello Heidi,

Do you not believe the Joseph Shaw in the 1906 census for Saskatchewan is  the person you are searching for? I noticed that Joseph and Sophie had a daughter Ethel.  My father had a cousin named Ethel but the one in the census would be older and I wondered if Ethel might has had a daughter she named Ethel?  I would like to be in touch by email, and I will email you if I can.

Stanley Cockroft and Joseph Shaw

I was surprised to see your inquiry regarding Stanley Cockroft and Joseph Shaw.  I have been researching these people also as Stanley Cockroft is my grandfather.  My grandfather lived in Winnipeg Manitoba.  I know that Joseph was his uncle but we have no information about him. I do know that his sister Martha Ann Cockroft (my ggrandmother) is buried in Winnipeg.
