Tipperary / Re: Family names : Ardill. Roche, B(o)urke & Cleary
« on: Tuesday 21 April 20 18:00 BST (UK)  »
I hope someone here can help me. I'm trying to find out more about my ancestor Eliza/Elizabeth Ardell/Ardill who married Thomas Griffin (farmer) in North Tipperary, possibly in Terryglass or Borrisokane, shortly before 1827. Thomas Griffin was born in about 1798 in North Tipperary but I don't have a date or place of birth for Elizabeth.
Thomas and Elizabeth began their married life in Terryglass but later lived in Feighmore and Feighbeg, Borrisokane.
Some Ardills/Ardells who were sponsors at Eliza and Thomas's children's Borrisokane baptisms (1827-1832) were George, Marianne and John - I'm guessing these were close relatives of Elizabeth's.

Thank you so much, Ann! Did you find that entry in local parish records?
If you come across Martha Death's baptism, please could you let me know? Or maybe the Frating record I found was the right one, although Frating is the other side of Colchester. (Perhaps Martha's mother came from there.)
Anyway, thank you again for your help - it is greatly appreciated.

Hello Ann

This isn't about Josiah Death but from someone who I am sure is a relative. I've been tracing the ancestry of Rebecca Eves, b. 1829 in Maldon, Essex, daughter of Joseph Eves, b. 1794 in White Colne, Essex, whose parents were (according to another family history forum http://www.familytreeforum.com/archive/index.php/t-94275.html) John Eves, a farmer with land in Great or Little Horkesley, and Martha Death of Fordham, whose father was a farmer with land in East and West Bergholt. Another researcher (http://famhist.co.uk/series5/5041.htm) says that John Eves and Martha Death married in Fordham on 13 October 1789 but I have not been able to find confirmation of any of this. Nor have I been able to find a record online of the baptism of Martha Death in Fordham although I did find one in Frating, but this Martha was born in 1774 which would have made her only 15 at the time of her marriage (if the above researcher is right). Martha Eves (née Death) was 70 or thereabouts in the only census in which she appears, the 1841 census for Maldon, Essex. I'd be extremely grateful if you could shed any light!

Hello

I'm researching William Ardyll Griffin, born in Borrisokane in about 1833. I haven't been able to find out who his parents were yet. Has anyone come across him in their research? (I'm sure his mother must have been an Ardyll, given his middle name!).
