hello again Valda
just to let you know I have received William Charles birth cert.(b. 11th may 1842) and it confirms his mother was Harriet Hiller.
Still can't find a record of a marriage to Eliza Harris though.
Thanks once again
Colleen

Hi Valda
Amazing where you get all your info. from!
I havn't found any Welsh baptism records on the sites I use, or which males married which females.
I havn't sent for William's will - not sure where to?
I have just sent for William Charles' birth cert. When you look at the actual image for the 2 page references (530 and 550) they both say 550. I have assumed the year 1842 is right even though the 1861 and 1891 cens. say b.1848. I'll let you know who the mother is when it comes(usually takes about 2 weeks to France)
If William married Harriett Hiller in 1840 she could well be the mother of Wm.Chs.
I've got plenty of updating to do on my tree now
Thanks Colleen

Many thanks to Valda and Trisha for trying to sort this out.

1841 census - I havn't found the entry for William , a cooper and Harriet - the only Wm. I found with Harriet is a bricklayer.
1861 cen., William Charles is age 12 so could be son of mary ann. (1851 cen showing him older I think is wrong.)

I'm not sure how Ellen Harris married to Moses Reading fits in unless she is sister of Eliza Harris, but I can't find any census entry showing them together.
Eliza was still alive in 1875 as William married her in Stepney then (assuming it is the same Eliza Georgina Harris).

I agree Mary Jane Ralph is the mary jane wade widow - the 1901 cen shows a Charlotte Ralph b.1925 as the aunt of Janes husband, but it is actually Jane's aunt(her father william's sister Charlotte who married a William Ralph).Presumably mary Jane is Charlotte and William Ralph's daughter.

Are you sure it was Mary Ann Johns that William married - I have found marriages listed to several other Mary Anns(Mayall, Creecy and Jackson) around that time?
I can't find any evidence of a  Mary Ann being born in Brecon.

I agree, it does sound like Jane was estranged from her father when she married so may have got his name wrong. On the other hand I have found a record of a William Wade being sentenced to 10 yrs. on the convict  ship 'Merchantman' - maybe either Jane or he was ashamed and gave a false name! He wasn't a witness at Janes wedding,it was her brother and a Mary Ann Wilkins(?her married sister).

I don't think the 1871 census under the name of Wales is correct because I found the same family listed in 1861 when we have a definite sighting of William's family somewher else.
This means that he is unaccounted for between the 1861 and 1881 census so it could have been him imprisoned.

Anyway many thanks again - I am less confused on some points now!
regards Colleen

Hi
Please can anyone help -my great grandmother Jane married James Parsons in 1887 when the cert. says her father is Albert Wade a cooper in Weston super Mare. I can't find any record of an Albert of the right age group but I have what I think is Jane's birth certt. which says father is William, a beer retailer in Vauxhall London. This says her mother is Eliza formerly Harris, but I can't find a marriage record for William and eliza until 1875(15 yrs after Jane born). Some census's show this William with a wife called Mary Jane(no marriage record for her) and his daughter Mary Jane has different birthdates in various censuses(1846/1861)
Please help sort this confusion!
