Thanks Cando, I did realise but on the off chance she came back thought I would post. Plus I guess it's nice to link the two threads in case someone else comes looking. :)

Hi Brenda, I believe this is the same John Crowe I mention in this post http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,647864.msg4944662.html#msg4944662

Would be happy to share the info I have.

Hi Bev,
My gg grandmother was Charlotte Booby whose brother Arthur Booby married Louisa Manton I believe. I have an old photo we were told was of Louisa Manton (and possibly Louisa Fuller). Let me know if you'd like a copy I'll happily send one.

Antrim / John Crowe and Agnes Anderson
« on: Wednesday 22 May 13 16:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I'm looking for help getting information about John Crowe and Agnes Anderson who travelled to Australia on the Briton arriving in June 1844.

I know alot about their history after their arrival in Australia (briefly, after arriving John worked for a Lt Caswell in Port Stephens as a gardener but eventually ended up in Bethungra, NSW). I'm hoping someone will be able to help with their history in Ireland :)

What I know that might assist is from immigration and death records:

John Crowe
Native Place: Belfast / Antrim
Calling: Gardener/Ag Labourer
Birth: Abt 1822 - 23
Parents: John and Mary - "Land Steward"

He and Agnes are married according to immigration records from 1844

Agnes Anderson
Native Place: Belfast / Antrim
Calling: Farm servant/ Domestic servant
Birth: Abt 1823
Parents: John and Barbara Anderson

They had no children of their own when they arrived but a notation on John's page of the ship's immigration record under remarks states "Margaret Logan, Neighbour's daughter". Margaret Logan is on board from Antrim aged 18 (parents William and Mary) and documents state she was under John Crowe's protection.

The following appear to have been referees for John and Agnes' application:

Rev Edward T Martin (Present ministry, Dundonald)

Robert Little M.D. of Belfast

John M Hastell of 46 High St

Hugh White of 16 Rupel St

Wm M Relvey of 2 Cath. Street North ?? - not easy to read I think probably is William M Relvey, 2 Cathedral St, North

John Kugler/Kugles/Rugler/Rugles of Carrowreagh - former employer

I can't find any likely birth or marriage records.

Many thanks in advance.

Also in the 1871 Census record Harriet Fisher is listed as born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire but the parish she, George and Mary Ann were living in is Cotmanhay and Shipley.

Hi, there is an entry in the 1861 Census for a George Fisher and Harriett Fisher stating Harriett was born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. On that Census they have a daughter Mary A aged 5 months.

Hi everyone, is anyone able to assist with a date for this photo?

Thank you again for all these fantastic restorations! :) Also thanks to China for the additional information on dates (and the beards!). I've looked a little more into the photographers movements around the region and think he was in Gundagai around 1864. You're all great, thank you!!

Hi everyone, glad to hear things are progressing. I do agree that the Ancestry family tree should be approached with caution as there is very limited sourcing to prove those links. I tend to use trees as a source for possible hints to investigate but as always the source material needs to be found to back it up. I'm sorry if I created any false hope Carol.

I hope that the certificates can provide more information. Will keep investigating to see what I can find.  :)
