United States of America / Maryland(?) marriage - JONES and CRAFT
« on: Tuesday 06 August 19 14:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm trying to find the marriage record of Joseph Elisha JONES (born 1906) and Jessie Elma (Alma) CRAFT (born 1911). Both were born in Pennsylvania.

They are shown as married in the 1930 U.S. Federal Census - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X43W-26H - living in Cleveland, Ohio with their daughter, Lillian.

A search of Newspapers.com turned up a reference to a marriage license being issued on 21 Dec. 1927 in Cumberland, MD. for "Joseph Elisha Jones and Jessie Alma Craft, both of Punxsutawney" in the 22 Dec. 1927 "Altoona Tribune" - https://www.newspapers.com/clip/32329910/altoona_tribune/?xid=865

However, I've been unable to find any further record of their marriage.

Joseph and Jessie divorced sometime around 1931/32.

Thank you for your time,
Craig

Unfortunately that order form doesn't allow marriages after 1929.

Would it be available in the LDS Family History Library in the microfilm no.: 1674949, titled "Certificates no. 28250-29500 1937"?

Hello,

I'm trying to find the marriage record of Elaine Ruth GUDMAND and John Benjamin IRELAND; according to the New York City marriage indexes, they were married on 29 Dec. 1937 in Manhattan, Certificate No.: 28996.

Hello Ciderdrinker

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I have looked at both those records on FindMyPast's Staffordshire marriage collection, but unfortunately in both cases the father's name is wrong.

Staffordshire / James Sheldon - born 1827, Rushall

Hello,

I have had no luck tracking down a marriage record for James Sheldon, born c.1827, Rushall. His father was John Sheldon, a bit maker.

James appears in the 1861 Census, a bachelor, living with his brother John jnr.'s family in Walsall. James' occupation is given as Policeman; with that information I requested James' record from the Staffordshire Police Force register.

In that record, from the 1860s, it gave his age, 33, place of birth, Rushall, and that he had served in the Coldstream Guards and was married with one child. James resigned from the force in 1865. I think I've identified him in the Guards with regimental no. 3678, and appears in FindMyPast.co.uk's 1851 Worldwide Army Index and the Crimean War Rolls.

But I have had no luck in tracking down a marriage record, which, I would think, happened between his 1861 bachelorhood and 1865 police resignation. The Army Marriages Index also do not appear to show him, and none of the Staffordshire baptisms on FindMyPast show a father named James that seems to fit.

Any suggestions to where else I might look? James appears to be absent from the 1871 Census; although I have not identified a death record, I do think he appears as a witness to the 1874 marriage of his nephew.

Hello,

If possible, I have two obituaries that appeared in the Times of London, that I would like a lookup of please. They are:

- Eleanor Maud HAYWARD, nee Baker, obit. published on 29 Mar. 1983, according to Ancestry.com. She died 27 Mar. 1983.

- Douglas MACKILLOP, obit. I think published on 27 Feb. 1959. I found this in Frank C. Roberts book "Obituaries from the Times, 1951-1960": "MacKillop, Douglas–Feb. 27, 12e (59)". Douglas died 25 Feb. 1959.

Thank you,
Craig
