Lancashire / Hello hello hello breezy Blackpool
« on: Monday 28 February 11 07:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Wonder if anyone can help me find the origins of a song my gran used to sing whenever we went to Blackpool? I have tried all manner of the lyrics with google but no reference at all.
Song lyrics are ( as much as i remember them)

Hello hello hello breezy Blackpool
It's Blackpool carnival time again
Arm in arm as we march along
Eee by gum it's as good as the continent
Hello hello hello breezy Blackpool
where's your girl did you leave her on the train?
Arm in arm, lets be calm, put on your fancy overall
It's Blackpool carnival time again.

My gran came from Bury and i'm wondering if it was an old mill workers song?
Would love some help with this!!
Thanks
M

If i get in touch with GRO would there definately be birth certs being as the births were before civil registration?
Thanks Andrea

Armed Forces / Royal Artillery in Newfoundland 1820s

Hi
I am trying to find out more about my ancestor William Wright who was in the Royal Artillery, according to his daughters marriage record he was a R.A Chelsea pensioner but unfortunately without more information i'm at a dead end with him.
He had two daughters in Newfoundland, one in Jan 1822 and one in May 1825 ( bap Sep) with his wife Lucinda but am unable to find his pensioner record as there are sooo many William Wrights and i have no idea of his birthplace.
Is there anywhere i can go with this to narrow down my search?
I think he was back at Woolwich by 1828 as the Scots church there has a baptism of another daughter to a William and Lucinda. There was also another one b1839 who gives her birthplace as Manchester on the census ( could have been based at Hulme barracks or even retird by then though)

Any clues would be much appreciated!!
Also tried to find a marriage between William and Lucinda but also a dead end.

Thank you
Andrea

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Two Hannah Reeds

Hi

I am wondering if anyone out there can help me solve a riddle of two Hannah Reeds

My Hannah according to census was born between 1810 and 1812, she married George Hardy in 1832.
I found on the IGI a Hannah Reed bap 27 Jul 1812, parents Robert and Hannah ( t his ties in as Hannahs 1st son is named Robert)
Unfortunately for me there is also another Hannah Reid bap 5 May 1811 at Cliff Lane Prestbyterian in Whitby who's parents were also called Robert and Hannah......

Now the confusing bit,
there are definately two separate Hannahs, the other Hannah marries Jonathon Gray in 1835 and they also name their first son Robert.

I can only find one marriage in Whitby in 1801 of a Robert Reed to a Hannah Kirkman
In the 1841/51 and 61 census they seem to be living next door to the Grays

There are other Reed children bap at different churches in Whitby with Robert and Hannah as parents but no idea how to unravel them! Would be grateful for any suggestions?
What do people think of there being two daughters named Hannah as i know this isn't unheard of??

Sorry for  the garbled post but i'm having trouble thinking straight!
Thanks Andrea

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Unfilmed Ardwick or Chorlton on Medlock

Hi
Thanks for your replies!

Will have to assume the Eastwoods were either not in the area in 1851 or more likely on an unsalvageable bit of census, but thanks for taking the time anyway.

Also made a bit of an error in original posting as William Jones was indeed born in Mobberley, it was his wife born in Ardwick so these are my family.

Thanks again for your help

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851 Unfilmed Ardwick or Chorlton on Medlock
« on: Friday 20 November 09 07:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to find Robert Eastwood c1785 and his wife Elizabeth c1791, they possibly have Elizabeths daughter Eliza Roney or Rooney b1830.

In 1841 family are on Bridge St, Chorlton on Medlock but by 1861 Robert is widowed and living with Elizabeths daughter Susannah Jones b1827 and husband William b 1826 in Ardwick, so unsure where they will be in 1851.

Any help much appreciated
Thanks Andrea
