The Common Room / Re: Died at sea

Passenger Lists held by the UK Board of Traded were routinely destroyed until about 1890.

So, you need to look at Australian sources to find any mention of passenger names.

As far as I am aware, none of my family fought in WW2.  However, my father did his "bit" helping to build Spitfires, which explains why I was born in Hoole (which makes me a genuine "Hooligan) and not in rural mid Cheshire.

Same here.
Maternal grandfather died in 1942 of pneumoconiosis (coalminer's black lung disease).
Paternal grandfather died in 1940, aged 63.
My father was too young, did his National Service after the War.

The University of Leicester may have an online copy?

Forecast yesterday was for clouds and 12C max.
Our (concrete) front garden is quite sheltered, so a flatmate and I were sunbathing in 20C!

Very quiet today - did a Tesco run just after 8:00. Very few people shopping.

Got supplies for just a few days, as I am in hospital Wednesday (Day procedure).

Maybe their email account is still active, and maybe they'll get a notification of your post?

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: Alice Edge of Nantwich
« on: Sunday 04 May 25 11:21 BST (UK)  »
I tried to order a digital birth record of Alice Edge (and KGarrad, I know your info is correct, because I had already found the same), but it returned ‘No Matching Results Found’. Bizarre.

On the GRO site, search the Birth Indexes, and click the button next to the relevant entry.
3 options appear (in blue): Certificate, PDF, Digital Image

I just entered 1889 as the year, and then Edge as Surname, Alice as Forename, and Female as Sex.
5 entries appeared, including your Alice.

The OP, double-trouble, was last online on Monday 14 October 2024.
Just a few months ago!
So there is a good chance he will get a notification of your post.
