Suffolk Lookup Requests / Edward Fisher Ipswich Prison 1901
« on: Thursday 18 October 12 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have an Edward Fisher born 1882/1883 in Eastbourne who is shown on the 1901 Census as a prisoner in Ipswich Prison.
As I am unable to travel to the Records Office is there anyone who could
look up the Nominal Registers for me, which apparently contain quite a lot
of information.

Many Thanks in advance

Barbara Fisher

Hi Carol

Sorry for delay in replying.

Thank you for the info. I have sent off for that marriage certificate to see
if it gives me any more information.

Hi Carol

Address at time of marriage was 58 Essex St Northampton, which is where the brides family lived and yes he is single. The family rumour was that after his daughter was born in 1920 he disappeared and joined the foreign legion,
unlikely I think. I married into the Fisher family in 1968 and I don't ever remember my Father in Law (his son) ever talking about his father, and when my father in law registered his mothers death in 1974, he put on the certificate that she was a widow " of a soldier " unusual don't you think.

Any thoughts

Regards

Barbara

I followed this route and until recently was almost convinced I had found him.

However I found a death in Eastbourne in 1962 of a Edward John Fisher aged 79 (which agrees with his age given on marriage) I sent for the certificate and the informant is a P Martin (Daughter).
There were only two children that I know of Edward Paul Raymond born 1917 Northampton ( my late father in law ) and Margaret born 1920 Northampton.
Do you have any opinion or advice on what I can do now?

many thanks
Barbara

Hi
I am trying to research my late husbands grandfather Edward John Fisher
This is proving very difficult as I can't find where he was born.
He was married in Northampton in 1916, same address as the Bride,   occupation Soldier. aged 33 father Fred Fisher.
On the birth certificate of his first child in 1916, same address occupation
Soldier (Corporal) Middlesex Regiment (Bricklayer Journeyman)
I have tried al obvious ways to trace his possible birth BMDs Census etc but
nothing adds up. I really need to find his birth to confirm anything, any advice gratefully received.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Burial Northampton

Hi Sandy

Thank you for all the info.

My real quest is to find what happened to her husband Edward John Fisher
who is my late husbands grandfather.

I did locate one of his grandaughters, and she said that her late mother
(his daughter Margaret) had been told that after she(Margaret) was born in 1920 he vanished believed to have joined the Foreign Legion. I don't know about you but this doesn't sound quite believable to me.

I have been tracing my own family history since 1999 and in some cases have got back to 1700's and it is so frustrating that with Edward John I can't find anything after 1920. I tried initially going back, but when he married in 1916 he was a soldier and its difficult to prove where he came from.

Thank you again

Barbara

Hi Sandy, As I originated this post I will answer your question.

When her daughter was born in 1920 she was living at 58 Essex Street Northampton. I visited her in1970 and she was living in an old peoples
home in Northampton, but I cannot remember the name or address.
