Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Buckingham family-Witney/Hanborough area
« on: Friday 22 March 13 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Wonderful news. The marriage in 1820 would fit in well. There were many Thomas' listed for possible deaths c1825-1850, so still a bit uncertain about his birth and parents. Many thanks.

Any help finding birth and parents of Christopher Amestrong (Armstrong) born around 1563, later married Allanson/Allinson in 1581 is appreciated.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / John Lansdown-born c.1833 Westminster
« on: Thursday 21 March 13 18:27 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for proof of birth for my great-great grandfather, John Lansdown c.1833 (as per census returns) in the Westminster area. Supposedly the son of James Lansdown and Margaret Mathews. I can't find the family at all for the 1841 census. His first wife died and he married Sarah Elizabeth Brown in 1871. Other descendants have had no success and have indicated that he may of been illegitimate. Any help is appreciated.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Buckingham family-Witney/Hanborough area
« on: Thursday 21 March 13 18:13 GMT (UK)  »
My starting point is with my ancestor Eliza Buckingham, b. 1823 in Witney(Wesleyan). I found her birth listed on FamilySearch.org with her father being Thomas and mother is Elizabeth. They possibly also had another daughter, Julia, in 1827. Then it is all a muddle. Is he the son of William and Anne Eveness? I would have guessed he was born 1790-1800ish. I can't find him on the 1841 census. Any help to clarify is appreciated. Too many Buckingham's in that area.

The Common Room / Armstrong-Durham,England or Dumfries-hire,Scotland
« on: Saturday 25 February 12 18:14 GMT (UK)  »
My Armstrong connection starts with Elizabeth (1769-1839, Durham).Followed by John(1729-?,Durham),Christopher(1694-?,Durham),Christopher(1669-?,Durham),Matthew(1633-?,Durham),and John(1592-?). Then I am confused. Many researchers show this last John as the son of another Christopher. The problem then is that some show this Christopher as being born in Durham and some as born in the famous border area of Dumfries-hire,Scotland., around 1562. So does anyone know for sure if this is a valid link to Scotland, is John the great grandson of the infamous Johnnie Armstrong, or do we continue to search in the Durham/Northumberland areas? Any help/advise is appreciated. I do not like to rely on other's research unless they have seen documentary evidence.

Would love to know more. I found  the following-
James Lansdown b 18 May 1794 Westminster
m 1813 or 1817 Westminster to Margaret Mathews
                            d 1860 Westminster
also

James Lansdown b?
m 1793 Westminster  to Sarah Ann Pinchon
Maybe they are John's father and grandfather. All very frustrating. I have more info on Sarah Elizabeth Brown, if you want. Family rumor has it that she did not know of John's previous marriage and children. Frederick James was my great-grandfather, through his only child, my maternal grandmother. We live 2 miles from Bowood House, the Lansdown estate in Wiltshire. Like to think it is our ancestral home! My e-mail is * Thank you.
