Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: De Luca family of Halifax
« on: Wednesday 05 January 11 20:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Malcolm, my great granddad was also an ice cream seller in halifax too, he was Pietro (Peter) Dagostino.  I've been told that there was a story about him in the Courier many years ago but I'm yet to find it.
Do you know anything about him?

World War Two / Italian POW's

My granddad was an Italian POW held in Halifax during the latter stages of WWII. Unfortunately I don't know many details about him apart from his name could have been Rubini or Rubinio but I do have a picture of him.

Is there anyone out there who might be able to help me find out which regiment he was in so I can do some more research?

We're not too sure as she had several marriages but it could have been Bastow however we have found a marriage to someone of that name in Britain.
She's a real mystery to us.

United States of America / Migrant to USA - mystery
« on: Thursday 16 September 10 19:34 BST (UK)  »
I've been told that my great great grandma was sent to the USA in disgrace as she had an illegitimate child.
My GG grandma was Sarah Priestley b1864.
Her daughter Elizabeth was born in 1884.

I'm not sure whether she was sent to the USA immediately after having her daughter but i can't find her on any British censuses after 1881.

Can anyone help me to find her.

I've also been told that she married an American but I don't have any details of this, the only other thing I know is that she came back to Britain & used to collect money from the local Post Office that had been sent from America.

I've been told that my great grandma used to collect a monthly amount of money from the local Post Office that had been sent by someone in America who we believe was either her ex husband or her deceased husbands family.

Does anyone know if the Post Office keeps records of things like this & if so where would I be able to look into this.

I was advised to post on here as apparently records would have been kept for ships leaving Italy.

Can anyone help?

Europe / Italy: DAGOSTINO - Emigration records to England
« on: Saturday 06 February 10 09:52 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with a look up.

My great grandparents emigrated from Italy to England in the late 1800's, most likely the 1880's/1890's.
They were Pietro Dagostino & Maria Dagostino (nee Pacitti).

I've been told they came from Bari but I'm yet to verify this.

Thanks

She would have been about 22/24 when she left the country. Her parents were William & Eliza. Not sure whether she had any relatives in Bolton but she was leaving the country.
