Australia / Re: Naughty Anna WARD (nee BEST)
« on: Thursday 08 November 12 06:18 GMT (UK)  »
Anna is on my husband's side of the family.  Just tried in vain to work out where the 1938 date of death came from, and where I found a reference to her dying in "The City of Sydney".

Some time ago I found on Tas Archives some references to a ship called "City of Sydney".  Found it because one of the sailors was named Thomas Ward; no idea which TW he was.  (Very unlikely that Anna and Thomas were together by 1838.)

Am obviously clutching at straws to think that she might have died on board a ship.

From reading the James Best letters I suspect that she felt too ashamed to face her father and ask for help, but that he was more than willing to do whatever he could.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Episcopal Chapel, Gray's Inn Lane, Middlesex, 1841
« on: Tuesday 28 September 10 05:20 BST (UK)  »
I have found an 1841 Census record for a Clarke family; John and Brillinia and their children Ann, John, James and William.  They were living in Gray's Inn Lane, (or Grays Inn Lane).

John snr's occupation was 'verger'.  I would very much like to know if there are any records relating to his position at the Episcopal Chapel, and especially if he was previously a tailor, please.

Suspect this family was John Thomas Clarke, Ann Brillinia (nee Clarke), Ann Maria, John Thomas, Joseph Ebenezer and William.  Birth dates are not the same as previous records, but the name Brillinia (and variations of) is quite unusual.  In 1837 this family lived in Calthorpe Street.

Thank you to anyone able to help.
