You're right about it been a long slog! I've got English and Scots roots so I'm going back and forth.  I know quite a few of mine emigrated to Aus, US and Canada.   It's expensive too with all the different sites.  Thank goodness for these free ones - they help a lot.  I'll let you know if I come across anything useful for you.  Don't worry about the smelling pistakes!!!  Take care.

Hi there, I have got Tait's in my family, the earliest being my GGGG grandfather John Tait who was born c1760 in Ireland, he married Janet Boyce also from Ireland.  They had 3 sons Samuel b1781 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Robert b 1787 in Girvan and John b 1795 in Ireland.  All 3 sons had daughters called Mary.  Samuel's daughter Mary was born 1812 in Girvan.  Robert's Mary b1816 in Girvan and John's Mary b1832 in Girvan.  Let me know if this is of any help

Yes sorry about that.  It was John Tait's father who was also called John was born in Ireland in1795.  He was married to Mary McCormick c1797 who came from Girvan.

I never knew there were so many Gibsons and Taits - and they all seem to be related in round about ways.  You can tell there were not televisions back then :)

Thanks

Thanks for the info, I can't match the Tait's with mine.  My gg grandmother Isabella Tait was born in 1858 at Ladybank, Kirkoswald,  Her parents were John c1827 and Mary Harkness c1827.  I think that the father was originally from  Ireland.

Isabella Tait married Henry Gibson in Kirkmichael in 1877.  They had numerous children, Robert 1882, Mary 1883, Margaret 1887, John 1890, James 1890 (twins), James 1892, Samuel 1894, Isabella 1897, William 1899 and Jane 1902.

I'm really grateful for your time.

Many thanks

Hi there,
I have a Mary McCormick c1822 who was married to Henry Gibson 1820.  Her father was called Peter and I know he came from Ireland but don't know which part.  Peter was married to Margaret McFadzean c1801 who came from Coylton, Ayrshire.  I have some info on the Gibson side as they are my gggg grandfathers, aunts uncles etc

Hi there,
I'm interested in Kirkoswald cemetery as I think some of my ancestors could be there.  Their surnames were Gibson, Kelly and also Tait.  I'd be grateful for any info
