I have a copy of the Marriage of David Kenneth McIver Stewart + Muriel Josephine Arthur Golden on 11th Apr 1925 in Hamilton, Wentworth ON.  I don't know where the McIver comes from as it doesn't appear over here in Scotland.

Don't know how much further you have got with the Stewarts but I was browsing Billion Graves and came across an entry for David Kenneth Stewart in Woodland Cemetery, Burlington Ontario.

My interest in the Stewarts ?  'Nether Lochaber' was the Minister in our church in Onich, Inverness-shire.

Alice's parents were: Joseph Barber + Mary Roberts (?)
Alice's siblings were : Benjamin,Sarah, John, EliZabeth, George, Ann, Lydia, Ruth, Joseph, May, Henry, Samuel & Martha.

Hello.  I've come into this rather late as I've rather neglected RootsChat.

Henry (Harry) Crossley is my Gt Grandfather on my fathers side. He was born in 1843 in Glossop DBY. His father was Humphrey Crossley, a Mechanic, born circa 1811 DBY. His Mother was Ruth Gill born circa 1811 in Glossop DBY.  They were married 7/2/1837 in Glossop DBY. Henry married Alice Barber - born in the Sept 1845 quarter in Scholes, Holmfirth (Huddersfield RD) YWR - in Glossop DBY on 1/1/1868. Their witnesses were Sarah Greensmith and William Howard.

I note that the 1861 Census entry for the Barbers says Hayfield DBY, Arundel Street.  Arundel St. was/is in Glossop DBY.  Hayfield DBY is the RD.

Henry and Alice's children were:
Mary born qe 03/1869 died 23/2/1898
Ruth b qe 06/1870
Humphrey b 5/6/1872
George Amer b qe 06/1875
Ann b 5/8/1876 d 27/4/1945 - My Grandmother
David Henry (Harry) b qe 12/1879 d 1953 Stafford NH USA
William (Bill) b 1832

Cartworth is a hamlet about a mile south of Holmfirth

World War Two / Re: Help identify uniform please

Rather puzzling.

Judy says her uncle was born in 1901 and served in WWI.  He looks about 40 here and would, I think, have been called up at the outbreak of WWII.  In which case, as has been previously said,  why is the junior rating wearing a cap tally for "HMS Centurion."  During the war only "HMS" cap tallies were worn.  Jolly Jack should certainly be getting a bollocking for wearing his cap flat-a-back.

HMS Centurion was built as a Thunderer Class warship in 1912/13 and was converted to look like a King George V Class Battleship, to confuse the Germans, in 1941 for blockade duties at Tripoli. This URL gives details http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/21/a6354821.shtml .  The name HMS Centurion was from 1956 applied to the shorebase at Haslemere of Commodore Naval Drafting and from 1970 to the Drafting and Pay section in Gosport.

Judy's Gt Uncle was certainly a PO and his branch badge (right arm) looks like that of a Naval Airman although it is too blurred to be absolutely sure.

This URL may be useful in searching for her Gt Uncles records

Many thanks all.

I manged to get into Millisle Presbyterian on my way down to my daughters in Dublin, at the back end of last year, and now have pics of the 2 Shanks markers both of which refer to members of my wife's Grandfather's family.

Any further info about these Shanks would, of course, be appreciated.
